To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the UNWLA Scholarship/Children-Student Spon sorship Program (1967-2007), UNWLA Branch 98 of Holmdel/Middletown, New Jersey, sponsored a fundraiser. Held at the Sisterhood Hall of St. Andrew’s Memorial Church in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, the lively event was well attended and featured a luncheon, an art raffle, a Chinese auction, musical interludes, and a presentation of Certifi cates of Appreciation to Branch sponsors. Branch 98 President Victoria Mischenko welcomed guests and introduced Luba Bilowch tchuk, Scholarship Chair, who served as Mistress of Ceremony and offered opening remarks for the event. Program attendees then sang the UNWLA anthem, accompanied by harpist, Odarka Polanskyj - Stockert. Guests joined in prayer before partaking of the delicious homemade luncheon dishes. After lunch, the program focused on the purpose of the event: to acknowledge and honor the history and achievements of the Scholarship Pro gram. Luba Bilowchtchuk, former National Scholar ship Chair, and Maria Polanskyj, the current Na tional Scholarship Chair, provided information about the program, which has assisted over 20,000 children and students in Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora. Ms. Polanskyj thanked all the Branch 98 sponsors and informed them that in the past five years, 41 of their scholarship recipients completed their schooling and graduated. As the sponsors came forward, each was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation. A special word of thanks was given to sponsor Myron Krawczuk for his 20 years of pro bono computer programming and computer support. The award ceremony culminated in a hearty round of applause for the program and its sponsors. During the event, two framed woodcuts by Jacques Hnizdovsky—“Black Swan” and “Sleeping Cat”—donated by Stanley and Halyna Jakubowicz, as well as an exquisite ostrich egg pysanka, designed and donated by Filomena Procek of Brazil were raf fled off. Harpist Odarka Polanskyj-Stockert played several Irish and Ukrainian melodies that preceded the Chinese Auction. Through the generosity and hard work of members, twelve lovely items were put up for auction. They included a variety of gift bas kets, luggage, printer, spa beauty package, lifestyle fountain, Lenox candy dish, and a videophone.
