“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИСТОПАД 2016 WWW.UNWLA.ORG 33 take; if it is only slightly yellow (bordering on the side of clear), then you are well hydrated and doing a good job. Myth : If you just had a cold you won’t get another cold right away. Fact : If you have ever said to yourself, “I just had a cold. How can I have another cold?” this one’s for you. There are over two hundred viruses that produce the typical “common cold,” and most adults have two to three colds a year with each taking a one to two week time frame to run its course. It’s very com- mon and quite annoying but it may just be that one type of virus leaves your body and another takes hold. The best advice is advice we have all heard at least 1,000 time: Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least twenty seconds to help prevent catching colds and use tissues when sneezing or coughing (or at least cough into your upper arm) to limit the spread of the virus. A Note from the Editors: Guidelines for Submitting Articles to Our Life 1. Please send each article as Word document attachment via email to unwlaourlife@gmail.com. Please DO NOT type your article into the body of your email or send as a PDF file. 2. Identify your work . In the subject line of your email, please provide title or subject of the article you are submitting for publication and designate whether the article is in English or Ukrainian. (type in ENG or UKR to identify which). If applicable, include UNWLA Branch #. 3. The Only Time Spelling Really Counts. We know a lot of people, but we do not know everyone and rely on our authors to provide correct spelling of first and last names of everyone mentioned in arti- cles each time the names are mentioned. We don’t like to guess which version is correct. 4. Deadlines. Producing a bilingual monthly magazine is a complex matter that requires extensive co- operation and coordination between and among authors, photographers, editors, and Computoprint. Ed- iting and layout take time and effort and it is for this reason that we set deadlines for materials to be pub- lished in any given month. Materials submitted later than the designated deadline wreak havoc on the production process and often create unnecessary additional work for all concerned. Please note that all materials (articles and photos) for any given issue of the magazine must be received by the editors by the 5th of the month preceding the month of publication. Materials received after this deadline may be bumped to the next issue. Last but not least : Please do not send identical articles to Our Life and any other publication simulta- neously as this constitutes a breach of professional courtesy. (In some cases, it is also illegal to do this as it may violate copyright laws.) If you feel the information you wrote about is important enough to share with a broader or different audience, write a separate and distinct article for each publication. Thank You for all your hard work and for your cooperation! The Pot Calling the Kettle Black A bit of a postscript to the “Guidelines for Submitting Articles” above. Just in case you feel like you are being yelled at or preached to, I wanted to clarify that editors make bloopers too. This editor did so while writing a hurry-up piece called “Finding Franko” that was published on page 8 of the September issue of Our Life. The blooper was in paragraph 2 of column 1 and concerns a reference to someone named Perci- val Manning. Although there may indeed be someone who is or was so named, what should have been there was Percival Cundy. Sorry about that, but all’s well that ends well because now you know that edi- tors are not infallible and also because I had something I could use to fill in the bottom of this page! God truly does work in mysterious ways! - tsc
