T h e J o u rn a lists D iv isio n w a s fou n ded in 1960 and is h ead ed b y Mrs. S te fa n ia B ubniuk, ed itor o f W om en ’s W orld, a U k rain ian w om en ’s m agazin e w h ich is p u b lish ed in W inn ip eg. M em bers o f th e D iv isio n ’s B oard o f D irecto rs include M esdam es B u rach yn sk a, K ohuska, Z elska and M uchyna. T h e in itia l e f fo r ts o f th e J o u r n a lis ts D iv isio n w ere d irected to w ard in c r e a sin g th e m em b er sh ip , g e t t in g th e m em b ers in t e r e ste d in th e D iv isio n ’s w ork and w o rk in g w ith th e m on planned p ro je cts. To d a te it h as n o t been p ractical to ar ra n g e a m e e tin g or con feren ce o f th e m em b ersh ip, b u t co n ta c t is m ain tain ed th ro u g h le tte r s and b u lletin s. T h e B oard o f D ire cto r s k eep s in close to u ch w ith th e m em b ersh ip and su p p orts th e m in th e ir w ork. F u r th e r e f fo r ts w e re d irected tow ard th e e sta b lish m e n t o f th e a rch iv es o f th e J o u rn a lists D iv i sion. T h e y are located in W in n i p eg , th e s e a t o f th e D iv isio n ’s B oard o f D irectors. Olena Z alizniak w a s am on g th e f i r s t w om en in W estern U k rain e to re ceiv e a h ig h e r ed u cation . S h e w a s a born ed u cator, b u t alth o u g h sh e loved and under stood y o u n g people, sh e w a s eq u ally in te r e ste d in civ ic w ork. L iv in g in L v iv , V ien n a and Mon treal, sh e g a th er ed to g e th e r w om en fo r civic p r o je c ts and or gan ized w ork. S he g a in e d m an y fr ie n d s fo r th e U k rain ian o rgan ized w om en ’s m o v em en t b y h er ap pearan ces a t th e co n g r e sse s o f th e L eagu e fo r P ea c e and F r e e dom in V ien n a (1 9 2 1 ) and P ra g u e (1 9 2 9 ).
