UKRAINIAN DISHES UNWLA Highlights The Annual Meeting of the Board of UNW LA will be held on Jan u ary 26 and 27 at Philadelphia. The Members of the Board of D ir ectors are asked to prepare their yearly reports. The detailed program of th e Conference will soon be sent out to them . The meeting- will bring forth the sum m ary of our wTork during 18 m onths and shall explore our momentous problems. ------ o ------ The Commission of the Fund of 500 has forw arded to the UNW LA Regional Councils an appeal to call the m eetings of all Presidents of the UNW LA Branches in all regional sections of the country. Such a m eetings took place at Philadelphia on Decem ber 9 and other m eet ings ought soon to follow. ------ o ------ Do you remember the esteemed appeal of the Regional Council of etroDit? In memory and in the nae of the 500 Ukrainian women m urdered a t K ingir by bolshevik torturers — they resolved to gain 500 new members. And the conference has also called upon all other Regional Councils to follow suit. The conference of the Presidents of the Branches would be the suitable time and place to discuss this tim e ly uestion. ------ o ------ ! The reports of the annual meetings of the Branches should be sent as. soon as possible to OUR LIFE, so th at they should be printed in the next issue. Our duty is likewise to constantly rem em ber and arrange collec tions for the Press Fund of OUR LIFE. W e should all act jointly to support the public tribune of our patriotic Organization. ------ o ------ Please, do not forget to check at your annual meeting, w hether all members of your Branch have subscribed for OUR L IFE , as well as to remind them th at their subscription for 1957 is $3.00. W e call your attention that the cost of publishing of newspapers and magazines is increasing every year, and we cannot afford to re tain the old rate of subscription while the prices we are paying, are being raised. M agyar insurgents and have checked, even if only for a short time, the immediate menace. The reported, desertion of Ukrainian units would indicate new possibi lities for the struggle of the sub jugated people against the bol shevik torm entors. COLD STUFFED FISH (6-8 servings) 2 cups mixed diced fresh vegetables 1 bay leaf V 4 tsp. pepper 1 tsp. salt 4 cups water 3 lb. fresh whole Pike 4 slices white bread minus crusts 1 small onion chopped fine 1 T. butter У4 tsp. salt Vs tsp. pepper 1 tsp. chopped parsley 4 T. water 1 egg 1 envelope gelatine (1 T.) 2 T. cold water Boil the vegetables and season ings in water until thoroughly done. Put through sieve. Remove head, clean and wash fish. Carefully re move flesh, keeping skin whole. Re move bones and shred fish flesh. Soak bread in a bit of milk, squeeze dry, and add to fish flesh with on ion, butter, salt, pepper, parsley, wa ter and whole egg. Mix w ell and form into a roll. Stuff «kin and sew up. Boil in the strained bouillon for 20 minutes. Remove fish an^ allow to cool on serving platter. Soften gelatine with the cold water and add to hot bouil lon. Allow to cool and thicken slight ly; then spread over fish and chill. Garnish with hard boiled eggs, to matoes, or watercress or all three.
