16 WWW. UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, КВІТЕНЬ 2014 Seminar at the UCU. prayer for Ukraine in a Roman Catholic Church in early April were discussed. On March 13th, I attended a rally in front of the United N a- tions to welcome Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to New York for an appeal to the UN Security Council. A World Feder a- tion of Ukrainian Women’s Orga n- izations delegation and I attended the Security Council session itself. The acting Prime Minister of Ukraine r e- iterated tha t Ukraine’s territorial integrity was challenged by Russia but that Ukraine is willing and anxious to address and reverse this situation peacefully at any time Russia is willing to do so. All members of the Security Council, both perm a- nent and temporary, u pheld Ukraine’s position, except, of course, Russia and China. On Friday, March 14th, we were able to attend a press co n- ference about the upcoming referendum in the Crimea. Appearing at this conference were Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN Yurij Sergeyev, Uk rainian Congress Committee of America Pres i- dent Tamara Olexy, Ayla Vakkali, USA Repr e- sentative of the Crimean Tatar Assembly, and Rabbi Yakov Dov Bleich, Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine. All presenters focused on the fact that Ukraine was seeking to evolve as a truly dem o- cratic country, without a corrupt leader, and u n- derscored the volume of disinformation being floated regarding friction between the East and the West in Ukraine. We had a chance after the press conference to chat with both Rabbi Bleich and Ms. Bakkalli. Each offered us insight regar d- ing their respective communities in Ukraine. The strong and common thread was that both were seeking a free, democratic, and independent Ukraine so that their communities could continue to thrive. Being able to make these efforts on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine is a priv i- lege. We should emphasize to Ukrainian- American women that, as a national organization, the UNWLA can best represent our interests du r- ing such events. There is strength in numbers and in unity. For this reason, we invite ALL women of Ukrainian descent to come and learn about the UNWLA at its XXX Convention, for not only the future of the UNWLA is in our hands — together we could make a difference in the diaspora and in the lives of Ukrainians in Ukraine. God gives us so many reasons to rejoice and Easter is a time of year to remember what is most important in life. CH RIST HAS RISEN! INDEED HE HAS RISEN! 100 дол . Уляна Лоза . 50 дол.
