23 НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Вересень-Жовтень 2022 UNWLA Member-at-Large Tamara Denysenko has the distinction of being recognized not once, but twice, as a New York State Woman of Distinction: this past June by state Assemblywoman Sarah Clark, 136 Assembly District, and in 2000 by state Senator James Alesi of Monroe County. In 2008, Tamara was also an Athena Award Finalist. A retired Ukrainian Federal Credit Union (UFCU) CEO, Tamara cur - rently serves on the UFCU Board of Directors and is the treasurer and past-president of the Ukrainian-American Community Foun - dation, which she helped establish at UFCU over 10 years ago. A recognized credit union professional with over 35 years of experi - ence, she has held various local, national, and international cred - it union leadership positions at the New York State Credit Union Association, Ukrainian American Credit Union Association, World Council of Ukrainian Cooperatives, and National Association of Federal Credit Unions. She also served as a World Council of Credit Unions USAID volunteer consultant for credit union development and financial literacy training in Ukraine. In 2019, Tamara was awarded the New York State Credit Union Association Outstand - ing Volunteer of the Year Award. A lifelong community volunteer, Tamara supported the UNWLA Scholarship Program for eight years and currently is involved in the UNWLA Advocacy Committee initiative to help establish a sis - ter cities partnership between Dnipro and Philadelphia. A past US- Ukraine Foundation (USUF) Board member, she currently serves on the USUF Advisory Board. In 2013, she helped establish the Nazareth College – National University of Ostroh Academy Ukrain - ian Partnership Program. Tamara has been a Ukrainian Saturday school teacher and director. She co-authored the Ukrainian-language children’s workbook Per - shi Kroky – First Steps and served as editor of the Rochester Ukrain - ... and was an Athena Award Finalist in 2008. She was a Plast Scout lead - er, president of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church Sisterhood, and in the 1980s co-hosted and co-produced the monthly Ukrainian Mag - azine TV program on the Rochester Cable Net - work. She also served on the Ukrainian World Congress Executive Committee. In 1991, Tamara facilitated the establishment of the Sister Cities partnership between Iron- dequoit, NY, and Poltava, Ukraine, serving as co-founder and first president of the Interna - tional Sister Cities Council of Irondequoit, NY, and the Irondequoit–Poltava Sister Cities Com - mittee for many years. A lifelong resident of Irondequoit (near Roch - ester), she served on the Town of Irondequoit Ethics Committee, Irondequoit Rotary, and Irondequoit Business Council. Most recently, she was President of Rochester Global Con - nections and helped facilitate various Con - gressional Office for International Leadership Open World programs for Ukrainian delega - tions to Rochester. Tamara attended the State University of New York – Buffalo and received a Bachelor of Sci - ence degree in Economics/Business Adminis - tration from SUNY Brockport. She is married to Walter V.
