The Citizens Bank mural artist, Misha Tyutyunik, with Mila Rabij, UNWLA Arts and Museum Chair. New Yorker Alexia Fernandez, a member of the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club, organized a Tennis for Ukraine fundraiser in March that saw many of the club’s women playing in a round-robin tournament. The event raised $10,400 for the UNWLA. Lidia Slysh, NYC Regional Council President, represented the UNWLA at the event, which was also attended by several local Soyuzianky. Our Cover Children painting the Ukraine: A History in Solidarity mural on the Citizens Bank building in New York’s East Village, part of a bank- sponsored fundraiser on March 26 that included a substantial grant to the UNWLA, the matching of public donations, and free admission to The Ukrainian Museum. The mural, by New York–based Ukrainian artist Misha Tyutyunik, depicts the legend behind the naming of Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv. inny Arsenal in NJ, and the Soyuzivka Heritage Center festival. Local schools have donated col - lected funds, and a talented dance choreogra - pher has held several classes to raise funds for the UNWLA’s work. The outpouring of support for Ukraine during the initial days of the war was amazing. The UNWLA Fundraising Committee is current - ly focused on securing donations and grants. To accomplish this, we are researching the best contacts to reach out to. This is a monumental effort at times, as many feel they have already given enough. However, the war in Ukraine con - tinues unabated, and we cannot give up on our efforts. More work lies ahead, but it is especial - ly important to continue raising funds both for Ukraine and for the numerous initiatives sup - ported by the UNWLA. Other significant fund - raising events are being planned and will be an - nounced soon. Oksana Lodziuk chairs the Fundraising Com - mittee, whose members include Iryna Cha - lupa, Maria Kvit Flynn, Oksana Piaseckyj, and Halyna Traversa. We recently welcomed a young intern, Sofiia Khalik, from the Ukrainian Global Scholars Program to help research vari - ous corporations. We welcome everyone who is interested to join our com - mittee. If you have fundraising experience, corporate contacts, or just want to make a difference, please let us know! To join or for more information, please email oal1@unwla.org.
