The Ukrainian American i mmunity has been fortunate to have Nashe Zvttia (Our Life) as an excellent source of national, community or congregational news. Your publication has provided and promoted awareness of issues and events pertinent to Ukrainian Americans. It is my hope that this dedicated service will continue for many years to come. Best regards, Jim Edgar GOVERNOR JE:pm CLAUDIA OLESNICKI In Memoriam Claudia Olesnicki (nee Hawryszczak) was bom in the village of Luka Mala, Ukraine, studied law in Poland and emigrated to the United States in 1936, immersing herself in Ukrainian community activities in New York City. She became a member of UNWLA Branch 1 and served as branch president in the early 1940's. In 1944, Mrs. Olesnicki became the founding editor of Our Life (Nashe Zhyttia). A prolific writer, she was frequently published in Svoboda, the Ukrainian National Association's Ukrainian language daily. She was especially dedicated to protecting the rights of women and children. Awarded a Masters in Social Work from Hunter College in 1959, she worked with the Bureau of Child Guidance and the Children's Aid Society in New York City.
