SUA CHAPTER 58, DETROIT, MICH. Chapter 58 of the UNWLA, Olena Teli ha, was organized in 1947. Throughout the eighteen years of the Chapter's existence the members have participated in numer ous social, educational, cultural and civic endeavors. They have been the so-called ambassadors of goodwill by disseminating knowledge about Ukraine and her people to the non-Ukrainian audience. They have worked diligently on commemorative pro grams of Ukrainian women of note; they have presented carols to American wom en’s groups, and demonstrated the art of Easter Egg decorating to schools and clubs. Chapter 58 members have expressed their talents in music, dancing, and drama tics as well. From 1950 to 1960 the follow ing musical shows which had originality, color, and humor were presented: “All Star Minstrel Review,” “Dixieland Minstrel Show,” “Masquerade Party,” “Pumpkin Pie An’ Apple Sas,” “The Flappers,” and “April in Paris/’ To carry on its community work the Chapter engaged in money-making proj ects such as socials, bingos, card parties, and magic shows. One of the Chapter’s annual events since 1949 is the mother- daughter tea, usually held in May. Al though the membership has never been large, the contribution which the Chapter has made to community services has been sizeable. As the years of history unfold, the members of Olena Teliha Chapter 58 hope to continue to grow, to learn, to enjoy, to share and perpetuate their Ukrainian cul tural heritage, and to help build a better community in which they live. 145 www.unwla.org
