14 OUR LIFE • November 2024 THE UKRAINIAN MUSEUM 222E6NYC Visit by President Zelensky Is Highlight of UM Fall Season РОЗВИВАЄМО • CULTIVATE It has been an extraordinary au - tumn at The Ukrainian Museum. Graced by a visit from President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and First Lady Olena Zelenska, the Museum went on to welcome countless visitors eager to experi - ence the visionary work of artist Alexandra Exter, learn more about the Museum’s commitment to decolonization, and demonstrate their support for Ukraine. On these two pages is just a sampling of the many events that took place at The Ukrainian Museum this fall. The Ukrainian Museum had the extraordinary privilege of hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska on September 23 for the official opening of the exhibition Alexandra Exter: The Stage Is a World. President Zelensky and the First Lady were the first to experience this remarkable exhibition, which celebrates the avant-garde artist’s pioneering contributions to stage design, theater, and art. During their visit, UM director Peter Doroshenko and Adrian Hewryk, President of the Board of Trustees, led the President and First Lady on a tour of the exhibition, which features the bold, visionary Exter works that continue to inspire modern-day creatives around the globe. The visit by President Zelensky and the First Lady underscored the importance of art as a reflection of culture and resilience and, at the same time, demonstrated their support and commitment to preserving and promoting Ukrainian art and culture on the global stage. Following the tour, President Zelensky took part in a meeting and discussion with the Ukrainian community of New York moderated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Oksana Markarova.
