I submitted two proposals to the client and one was selected. How do you approach a blank canvas? With gusto, excitement and energy. How do you know when something is "finished"? You just know. How do you feel about being an artist? This is a complex question. I don't think I had a choice. To pursue art as a career is not easy since so few artists can make a living of it. It takes a lot of tenacity and belief in one's self. What inspires you? That is also a difficult question because it addresses the process of creativity itself, which is a complicated matter. Let's say that the driving force is the need to express oneself an d create an object of beauty that the viewer in turn will be inspired by. What aspect of the creative process is most gratifying you? Conceptualizing and starting a new work is always exciting. It is also gratifying when you are happy with the results, wh en you have accomplished what you set out to do. What aspect of the creative process is most frustrating or difficult? Sometimes the work doesn't go along smoothly. I might be dissatisfied with parts of the painting — I might have to rework some areas. Doe s your work ever make you laugh? I wish it did! It would be nice not to take my vocation so seriously. What, if any, advice would you give a young artist just beginning the journey? I know this sounds like a cliché, but I would say be true to yourself. How does being an artist impact your life? It has defined my life to a large extent. How does life impact your art?
