26 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, БЕРЕЗЕНЬ 2009 fires. An e - mail from the UNWLA was sent t o Mrs. Chrystyna Syvenka Bailey, the p resident of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Australia, expressing our heartfelt sympathies and concern. A gracious acknowledgment was immediately received. On a much happier note, we congratulate Branch 96 of the Detroit Regional Council on its 40 th anniversary. Last year, Branch 96 members invited their daughters and daughter s - in - law to join their branch and share in the rewarding experiences of UNWLA’s c onvention. We should see this as a positive example of what can be done when our branches implement their own “Retention and Recruitment” campaign s . Beginning with the October - November issue, w e have been featuring of the artwork of Ukrainian American women artists on the cover of each month’s Our Life . Readers’ response s ha ve been extremely positive as have responses from the artists themselves, filled with great interest and enthusiasm . We invite other established artists to join us in this evolving and exciting project . Please write to us by e - mail at unwla@unw la.org and send contact information. In future issues, we plan to profile our artists in greater depth. As all of us look forward to the first day of s pring on March 21 , a season of renewal and new life, I thank you for your attention to my thoughts, new s, and views! M arianna Zajac , President Our Life’s Cover The painting that adorns this month’s cover of Our Life is the work of Romana A. Rainey. Mrs. Rainey holds a Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College in New York and worked as a secondary scho ol art educator in New York until retirement, when she and her husband moved to Nantucket, Massachusetts. Here, Romana continued to pursue her true love, painting. Mrs. Rainey has exhibited extensively at solo and shared shows, including many Ukrainian ve nues, such as the Ukrainian Institute in New York City and the Grazhda Gallery in Hunter, New York. Most recently, she has participated in art shows in Nantucket, where she twice received the prestigious “C. Robert Perrin Watercolor Award for outstanding w ork in watercolor”. Her paintings are a part of Permanent Collections at the Artists Association of Nantucket, and at the Ukrainian Museum in Ne w York. Many private collectors are also proud to display her work. Romana, although she lives far away on the beautiful island of Nantucket, is a member of UNWLA Branch 113 in New York City. We wish her success in all future endeavors. — UZ OUR LIFE PRESS FUND $100 from Janina Pylypchak $50 from Olha Pospolita $45 from Anna M Zelisko $30 from Helen Ratycz $25 f rom Halyna Kuzyszyn - Holubec, Maryann Mysyshyn $20 from Anna Makuch, Jaroslawa Boraczok $10 from Iwanna Jacuch, Oksana Bachynsky , Stefania Brezden, Mary Was i chko Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
