LETTERS TO MRS. MARIA SAVCHAK. PRESIDENT UKRAINIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF AMERICA, INC. August 25, 1988 Mrs. Maria Savchak, President Ukrainian National Women's League of America 108 Second Avenue New York, N. Y. 10003 Dear Maria: We are all so grateful to you and to the Ukrainian National Women's League for your staunch and generous support of the Centennial Celebration. The beautiful reception at the National Press Club was a highlight of the Celebration. Everyone loved the warmth and congeniality of the affair and the wonderful historic fashion show. That was really an incredible display of talent. We also appreciate the wonderful work of the Washington Ukrainian women. They really took the brunt of the first few days of confusion caused by the extra 200 women who appeared. Their calmness and efficiency in the midst of chaos was admirable and we simply could not have done the registra tion without them. I personally thank you for sitting through all the meetings and representing the United States Council so well. Just having you, Iryna, Marta and others was a source of strength to me. On top of all, thanks for taking the page in the journal (your five copies will be sent soon). That helped a lot to make it the wonderful memory book it is. Nancy Barker did a super job of putting it all together. One of the things that pleased me most, was showing the diversity of American women to our foreign guests and I think women from Kharkiv attended the International Women’s Council in Berlin, never has their representation been as strong or as central as at the Centennial Celebration. The Ukrainian members of the ICW/NCW of the U.S. delegation were: Maria Savchak, Iryna Kurowycky and Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak. The Canadian and Aus tralian delegations also had Ukrainian representatives. Thus, a Ukrainian presence was widely manifested by the UNWLA at this international event, especially since members of Branch #78 from Washington took part in registering all participants, thus being in a stra tegic position from which to share information about Ukraine. As the second century of the international women’s movement begins, it is obvious that the longstanding activities of Ukrainian women’s organization have re sulted in progress and growth. In July, 1988, the UNWLA represented the Ukrainian woman as well as the Ukrain ian nation on an international forum. R. Chomiak Translated from the Ukrainian the participation of our member organizations — UNWLA, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women, National Woman’s Party, etc. did that in a way nothing else could have. The comments that were made to us and the letters we have received make it abundantly clear that we suc ceeded in showing them the best of the U.S. and they appre ciated it. I could go on for pages but I will just conclude by saying the NCW/USA is very privileged to have the UNWLA as a member organization and we never forget it. Sincerely, Merrinelle Sullivan President Mrs. Maria Savchak, President, Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc. 108 Second Avenue New York, N.Y. 10003 Dear Mrs. Savchak, I am writing to thank you on behalf of the New South Wales National Council Members who attended the recent ICW Con ference and who were fortunate enough to be at the wonderful Reception at which your organization entertained us. The singer and the pageant were delightful and so unusual for many there. We did enjoy it. Thanks to Mrs. Helen Danko, one of our valued members, who represents the Ukrainian Women's Association in Australia (NSW) on our Executive, we have learnt so much more about your history and what the Ukrainian members are doing as valued citizens in our society. Yours sincerely, Natalie Guy. President.
