Report of UNW LA Branch 52 M rs. K a th ry n C ebra, P re sid e n t of 52 U NW LA B ran ch 52 UNWLA BRANCH PRESIDENT Last year our members de cided to elect a younger Presi dent so that our Branch could profit from her vigor and strength. And so Mrs. Kathryn M. Cebra of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. became our President. Mrs. Kathryn Cebra is a na tive of Philadelphia. She was born Kathryn Mucha and is well known in Ukrainian circles. In 1942 she graduated from Ken sington High School and married George Cebra. Mother of three (Kathy Ann, 15, Mary Lynn, 12, and George 9) she couldn’t de vote much time to social work. But whe she became a member of the Branch, she became en thused about the members and their work. Soon she became a board member and was recog nized as a diligent and active leader. Now Mrs. Cebra is com pleting her term of office but will certainly continue in the same capacity in the future. WRITER NATALENA KOROLEVA The noted Ukrainian writer Natalena Koroleva died recently in Czechoslovakia at the age of 78. Born in Spain of a Polish fa ther and Spanish mother she was educated in France and Uk raine, where her father lived. Having many artistic interests she finally dedicated herself to archaeology. When she married the Ukrainian writer V. Koroliv, The 1965 Annual Meeting Dec. 28, 1965 was connected with a Christmas Party. It was held at Ann Kean’s home in Cornwell Heights. Stephanie Wochok reported about a pack age which was sent to a young Ukrainian .soldier in Vietnam (Eugene Pelensky of Philadel phia) . The Polyanna collection brought in the amount of $40.00 which will be presented to the Mother of God Sisters for their needs in the new Retreat House. The new Board is comprised of the following officers: Kay Cebra, President; Lillian Kach- mar, Vice President; Pearl Bilin- sky, Secretary; Ann Yaremko, Treasurer; Frances Newman — Sunshine Committee. The next meeting was held at the home of Mary Metelski on February 3, 1966. On January 9 members and friends of the Branch visited and toured the Retreat House of the Mother of God Sisters. The Sisters were pleased and happy with the mon etary gift presented by the Branch. On February 27, a Card Party and Bingo were held at the UN WLA Home. It was a nice social affair with many members and their families present. A special “thank you” goes to our most active members Olga Liso, Jean Konyk and Estelle Brendzey for collecting gifts. The Card Party brought a profit for our treas ury. The next meeting was held on March 1 at Lillian Kacczmar’s home. The Doll Project of the Federation of Women’s Clubs was discussed. The April meeting was held on the 14th at the home of Stella Kiriloff. UNWLA Branch 42 i n vited us to join the Mother-So- yuzanka Dinner in May. The Luncheon for the November Doll Project was also discussed. The following meeting was she began to write short stories and novels. Her last book “Quid est veritas” was published in Chicago in 1963. held on May 10 at the home of Mary Kaczur in Clementon, N.J. The President read Christopher Note on the topic “What Makes a Club?” It held everybody’s in terest. The dolls were brought in for the doll project. Also cra dles made from oatmeal boxes were shown. On May 22 the Mother-Soyu- zanka Dinner was held together with UNWLA Branch 42. It was very well attended and our mem ber Jessie Letnanchyn was hon ored as the outstanding mother of our Branch. Mrs. Ann Sywu- lak of Branch 42 was presented with a gift from UNWLA Head quarters. The June meeting was held on June 2 at Ann Yaremko’s home. The date for our Doll Project was set for November 11, 1966. A set of hand-made dolls (19”) will be displayed at a special luncheon. We hope that UNWLA members will attend this affair. It will be held in the UNWLA Building. Guests from the Fede ration of Women’s Clubs are ex pected to attend. The Doll Project is our most important affair. Please, support us in this matter. Pearl Bilinsky Secretary 37 UNWLA BRANCH AUXILIARY In January 1966 an Auxiliary of the 37 UNWLA Branch was founded in Ann Arbor, Mich. It includes 11 members with Mrs. Asya Humensky, Chairman. The Auxiliary sponsors Ukrainian classes for children of the group. Twelve children meet every two weeks to study and sing in Uk rainian. On March 27 they or ganized an evening in honor of Taras Shevchenko. Branch 37 is glad to cooperate with this auxi liary. A leader sees things through the eyes of his followers.
