Найбільшої краси та пишности набули козацькі одяги в XVII ст. — як жіночі, так і чоловічі. Чимало тканин були місцевого виробництва, деякі коштовності спроваджували з Франції, Італії, Туреччини, Персії. Одяг гетьманші складається з двох частин: сукні та байбарака (свита, плащ). Байбарак у цьому костюмі з важкої квітчастої тканини, з широкими манжетами та хут ряним коміром іншої барви. Шовкова сукня скроєна як і байбарак, долиною та на грудях обшита золотою бортою і вибита перлами. На голові — кораблик з хутра, верх ко раблика з матеріялу фарби байбарака. Позаду до кораблика припнята шовкова кокарда з двома дов гими кінцями. Шию прикрашає бурштинове намисто з дукачем на золотому ланцюгу. У вухах золоті ковтки. На ногах черевички. Many local fabrics were used, but more expensive fabrics were imported from France, Italy, Tur- key and Persia. The attire of a Hetman ’ s wife, as well as the garments of the wives of the high - ranking officers, show a marked Western influence: a heavy silk skirt replaced the winding cloth, and a blouse replaced the chemise. The wide - sleeved white blouse was intri- cately embroidered with white thread. The laced corset was short and fit the bust tightly. The coat was made of a heavy, floral patterned fabric and sported wide cuffs and epaulettes of a different color. An amber necklace with pendants adorned the neck, and a veil, arranged to suit individual tastes and preferences, co vered a cap. The en- semble included short boots or half - shoes.
