“НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЖОВТЕНЬ 201 3 WWW. UNWLA.ORG 13 PATRICIA ZALISKO ART EX HIBIT IN FORT MYERS by Ann - Marie Susla Several me m- bers of UNWLA Branch 56 of North Port, Florida , r e- cently had the pleasure of visiting the Sidney & Berne D avis Art Center in Fort Myers to see the “Raising the Bar” art exhibit . This exhibition fe a- tured the work of various artists who are also the me m- bers of the Lee County Bar Assoc i- ation. Among th e- se artists is our own Branch 56 member, Patricia Zalisko. A New Yorker who has retired from a successful legal career in New Jersey, she is now a Floridian who devotes herself to her art. “ My art comes from a place that’s visceral, a place of se n- sation and emoti on without thinking or analysis, ” explains the artist. Her work appears in major public exhibits and private collections i n the United States and abroad. One of her most moving series is entitled Holodomor I - 1932 Patricia Zalisko with Evolution Photo by Katherine Godina Design and Photography Holodomor : it captures on canvas Ms. Zalisko’s deep emotional response to the Holodomor tra g- edy in Ukraine. In this series, the artist’s material comes from nature and includes twigs, bark, dirt, grass, berries , and fungi , which victims of the tragic artificial famine resorted to in their fight for survival. Holodomor I - 1932 was one of the works on display at the Davis Center. Four other works by Ms. Zal isko were exhibited at the Center: La s- caux II , Flux II , Evolution , and a triptych dedica t- ed to the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. According to the artist, the “ visual la n guage is a met a- phor for life’s ... experience” ; se e ing her work helps one understand that it is really so. Ms. Zalisko met us at the Davis Center and took us on a tour of the e x- hibit before we walked on through the historic Fort Myers River District and enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Morgan House Restaurant. l - r: Anya Rejnarowycz, Orysia Zinyc z , Patricia Zalisko, and Ann - Marie Susla stan d ing in front of Evolution on the left and Holodomor I on the right.
