Soyuz Ukrainok Branch 72, one of the newest branches in the UNWLA, is looking forward to another season of activities to start in September. But even during the month of August, when many organizations are still vacationing, Branch 72 is busy. Members met on August 15 for a Ukrainian “luau” at the home of Mrs. Celia Saranoff in Ridgewood, N. J. Those who will serve as hostesses during “Uk rainian Day” on August 29 in the New York State Pavilion at the World’s Fair discussed their duties for that occasion. President Mrs. Mae Demey announced that the Branch will hold a card party October 16 at the BPOE Home in the Bronx, with Mrs. Marie Rickett as chairman and Mrs. Anna Kosciw co-chairman. The annual music- ale, with Mrs. Anne Harrison as chairman this year, will take place in November, and a Christ mas party is scheduled for De cember. Branch 72 was organized in January 1962 by Mrs. Mary Dushnyck, who became its first president, and Mrs. Mary Le- sawyer, its first vice-president and membership chairman. It now has almost 50 members, most of them American born. Anxious to increase its ranks, the Branch hopes to welcome many new members in the fall. In the span of two years, this group has planned and brought to fruition two musicales featur ing young Ukrainian musicians and singers, a well-attended showing of a travel film on Uk raine, and a large exhibit of Ukrainian folk arts in the Brooklyn Public Library’s main room. Two successful charity dance-raffles have been held, with proceeds being donated to worthy Ukrainian institutions. Recently a copy of the Concise Encyclopedia of Ukraine was presented to Seton Hall Univer sity library. This year, a Uk rainian language class was be gun for the members with Mrs. Helen Prociuk as instructor. At Christmas time, members bring their husbands and chil dren for a “family” get-together and musical program. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at the Ukrainian Institute of America, Fifth Avenue and 79th Street. At the annual elections in Janu ary, Mrs. Mae Demey was chosen to head the Branch, succeeding Mrs. Dushnyck, who then be came its first honorary presi dent.
