HELEN MURAL, Junior Vice-President UNtVLA, Contributing Editor, OUR LIFE A REMINDER TO THE "CALL" Though the often praised World Congress of Ukrainian Women and Soyuz Ukrainok Convention dates almost two years back in the book of memories, certain impres sions remain fresh in my Recollec tions. The one memory of concern at the moment is the dismaying re membrance of the too few Junior League members in attendance at the Convention. I. eaders* and speakers at tlv World Congress and -Convention "were eager to delegate responsibi lities to young American bom Uk rainian women, for these wise mo thers recognized that the future of the Ukrainian National Women’s League lies in the hands of we Jr. League members. Plainly a “Call” was sent out to us, and I feel that in the past year and a half the Jr. League has done an admirable job in responding to this call. A current example of the fine work of the Jr. League is the almost 100 per cent generous contribution on the Jr. League’s part to the Les ya Ukrainka Fund. To quote Mrs. Lototsky, Ukrainian National W o men’s League’s President, “I really don’t have enough words of praise. I am proud to be their President and I am grateful for the coopera tion they have given to the main office on the publication of “The Spirit of Flame.” W e do not have very many Jr. League branch es, only ten branches strong, but it’s all quality, the finest there is.” W e must continue to respond to the “Call” and we must constantly re-assure the trust and confidence that the “old-timers” have bestow ed upon us “young-uns.” At the Convention in Philadel phia this November when the roll call is read, let there be a delegate and many more to represent each Jr. Branch! And when from among the young set, officers are selected and elected to serve the UNW LA, let us be prepared to assume the role that we have long been coach ed to act by our Ukrainian moth ers. HEADQUARTERS BULLETIN Though member branches, of So yuz Ukrainok are not meeting of- ficijally during the summer months, Headquarters is requesting that each branch dp its utmost to sell ads for the forthcoming Jubilee Convention Journal. Each branch has been mailed advertising blanks and it is hoped that each group will cooperate in this undertaking as well as the groups did for the Lesya Ukrainka publication. All branches are urged to have a group picture taken for a one- page insertion in the Jubilee Jour nal. Pictures should be taken im mediately and sent to Headquar ters along with a check for ten dol lars extra to pay for the cut. Names of the members pictured should; be written legibly on the back of the photograph. The Jubilee Committee for the Ninth Convention, of the U N W LA has been established. Tentative plans are being, formulated; one of the highlight features of the Con vention will be a Ukrainian fashion show following the banquet at the Warwick Hotel. The fashion show will present authentic costumes, of Ukraine from the various regions. A concert and a one-act play is also being planned. Headquarters is at tempting to formulate a program worthy of the Twenty-Fifth Jubilee of the UNW LA. Officers and chairmen of, stand ing committees who served during the twenty-five years of the UNW - LA’s existence will be honored at the banquet. Plan npw to attend, the Ninth Convention, November 11 and 12, Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia, Pa.! N£WS NOTES F^OM BRANCH 60 To say that the girls of Branch -60 have been active during the last month is a mere understate ment. The Cleveland J* League to gether with the Akron branch worked harmoniously again, as they so. often do, at the Ohio State Convention in June. At the June meeting, election of officers took place ‘enlisting’ the services of Margaret Ніьеі as President; Olga Pavlyshyn, Vice- President; Helen Budc v;^nec, Treasurer; and Irene Trembly, Sec retary. Chosen as delegate to the UYL-NA Convention* in Septem ber, is Irene Trembly. After a few of the girls ,jst re turned from the Detroit Sports Rally (and not yet fully recuperat ed) the club put another післе into its belt and sponsored its Second Annual Picnic, held on jj]y 9, 1950, at the St. Vladimir’s Grove under the grand supervision of our new President, Margaret Husel.
