Letter to the Editor I especially loved the cover of the May issue of Наше Життя ! Also love the new format and use of color in all your issues. Petrusia Sawchak , Branch 88, Philadelphia Regional Council 4 OUR LIFE • July-August 2023 UNWLA’s Summer Interns Romana Mykhailevych will begin her Directed Studies Program at Yale University this fall. She is interested in literature, philoso - phy, and historical and political thought. At the UNWLA, Roma - na has been developing the Decolonizing Ukrainian Culture project using her skills in research, writing, and photojour - nalism. This is not her first creative and research endeavor: Romana produced a book, Stryi to Chernihiv , documenting the lives of civilians in the midst of the ongoing russian war in Ukraine. Two brilliant young women, both Ukraine Global Scholars (UGS), joined the UNWLA’s National team this year as summer interns. Valerie Malykhina is studying Neuroscience at Vassar College and is interested in public mental health, particularly in the context of violent con - flicts and collective trauma. She sees her intern - ship in the UNWLA Communications department as an excellent opportunity to use her analytical skills and marketing experience for a great cause. Valerie is also passionate about contemporary art. Last February, she curated an exhibition of wartime Ukrainian photography at Vassar’s Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center. The exhibition, titled The People of Steel , was centered around individual experiences of war and resilience, and the losses of the people of Ukraine. We are very excited to have these brilliant Ukrainian scholars on board! As always, our heartfelt thanks go to Ukrainian Global Scholars and the Ukrainian Community Foundation of Philadelphia for this great educa - tional opportunity.
