НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ • Липень-Серпень 2023 29 Branch 113 Is as Busy as Ever Since Covid, we rarely see each other in person, but we have become ZOOM enthusiasts, and have held our regular meetings all along – every month! Plus, we held two fundraisers to replenish our coffers. In May 2022, we participated in the St. George’s Festival, and de - spite heavy rain on the first day, we were able to raise $1,400 over the weekend. We also held a Christmas card fundraiser with the help of our in-house artists, who designed our cards, which raised $5,300. From this income, we were able to send packages to Ukrainian soldiers fighting near Zhytomyr, supplying them with warm socks and underwear. The soldiers sent us a thank-you letter and a hramota, or certif - icate of appreciation. We also contributed $475 to the Widows of Heroes in Ukraine initiative. In January 2023 we donated $4,500 to the Keep Ukraine Warm war effort. Oksana Krushelnycka and Inna Bazylewsky-Lysloff Public Relations and Press Co-Chairs, UNWLA Branch 113, New York City Among personal contributions, our long-time member Patricia Bodnar McGarrigle, a teacher, dedicated last summer to flying to Poland and teaching English to refugee children arriving from Ukraine. The New York Board of Education supplied books for teaching the children. Our new member Barbara Taller Senzone, to - gether with a group of Ukrainians, joined the Japanese Parade in New York City, honoring Ukrainian bravery. Barbara enthusiastically joins our efforts and has agreed to serve as the Sec - ond Vice President of our Branch. Another new member, Maria Kohulka-Green, is serving as our new Secretary. We are pleased to announce that the former longtime director of The Ukrainian Museum of New York, Maria Shust, has also joined our Branch. Branch 113 has received recognition for its work. At the Day of Soyuzianky ceremony, our pres - ident Orysia Stryzak received an award for her outstanding and dedicated work for Branch 113 and the New York Regional Council. This spring, we were surprised, and very hon - ored, that at the Day of Thanks celebration at The Ukrainian Museum on April 30, our Branch received two awards from the UNWLA National and Regional Councils: an award for our mem - ber Alla Leshko, for her longtime and dedicated work in support of The Ukrainian Museum, and an award to Branch 113 for 45 years of dedicated support of the Museum.
