UNWLA .ORG 7 Before we all take a well - deserved break for the summer, the UNWLA Executive Comm ittee and National Board have been very busy holding im- portant conference calls and making important de- cisions, and I would like to share a few of these with you . May 12, 201 9 . T he Ukrainian Greek Catholic chapel named the Assumption of the Mother of God and the Spiritual Social Center of Pope Fran- cis, located in Sieverodonetsk, a city in the oblast of Luhansk, were blessed by Archbishop and Met- ropolitan of Lviv, Met ropolitan Ihor Woz- niak. Met ropolitan Wozniak was greeted by Plast members and parishioners and guests totaling 70 persons. One of th e guests was Dr. Wasyl Pazyniak who represented the UNWLA, greeted those in at- tendance and presented a beautiful painting of Je- sus blessing in nocent children to the chapel in our organization’s name. As you may rec all, the UNWLA has donated a total of $25,000 to the development of this island with - in Luhansk. The parish priest, Rev . Fr . Y ur chyk , noted “Having such a beautiful location, we are certain Ukraine will be here in Luhansk ob- last. Surely, this generation w ill need to undergo change, but already, children and youth and their parents who visit us have Ukraine in their hearts and will pass it on to the next generation. Only with this kind of spiritual and social center will there be opportunities to grow in Uk rainian spirit and culture. The community is expanding. Luhan - shchyna is Ukraine!” (See Photo 1 on page 2) May 15, 2019 . Olya Czerkas, Liaison for B ranches at L arge, held a conference call with the branches in the East Coast grouping : Br 17 (Miami, Fl . ), B r 27 (Pittsburgh, Pa . ), Br 56 (North Port, Fl . ), Br 68 (Syracuse, N . Y . ), Br 78 (Silver Spring, Md . ), Br 97 (Buffalo, N . Y . ), and Br 120 (Rochester, N . Y . ). Ad- ministrative and organizational matters were dis- cussed. May 18, 2019 . The Ukrainian Museum Board of Trustees quarterly meeting , the final meeting be- fore the annual meeting on Sunday, June 23, 2019. Future exhibits and budgets were discussed and a pproved. May 22, 2019 . Mon thly conference call of the Board of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Orga nizations. The discussion focused on the WFUWO annual meeting scheduled for Au- gust 31 – Sept . 1 in Lviv , which will be immediately followed by the very First International Ass embly “The Ukrainian Woman in the World: Profession- alism, Activism, Tradition” to b e held Sept . 2 – 4 in Lviv. May 31, 2019 . A grant in the amount of $23,000 was provided by the UNWLA for deliver ing hu- manitarian medical cargo through Support Hospi- tals in Ukraine to the Lviv Regional Children's Hospital "OKHMATDYT" and to the Zhytomyr Chil dren's Hospital during the summer of 2019. On May 31, 2019, several UNWLA members met to photograph our presentati on check. The medical cargo is being donated by Project Cure and the 40 - foot container will be filled from their warehouse outside of Denver, C olo. UNWLA Branch 38 mem- bers will be present at the packing of this con- tainer. MEEST will be providing transporta tion for the container. (See Photo 2 on page 3) June 1, 2019 . Monthly conference call of the Board of the World Congress of Ukrainians of whic h the President of the UNWLA is a member as a representative of WFUWO. This meeting focused on the readjustment of the diaspora’s work in Ukraine after the election of V olodymyr Zelensky as President of Ukraine and in anticipation of the parliamentary elec tions to be held on July 21 . June 2, 2019 . Natalia Pawlenko, UNWLA Arts & Museum Chair, and therefore member of the Ukrainian Museum Board, organized with her committee of UNWLA members who are also Mu- seum Boa r d members (Alla Leshko, Chrystyna Bonacorsa, Roma Shuhan) a “UNWLA Appreci a- tion Day . ” This year the N ew J ersey Regional Council was the focus . Because there were several events happening simul taneously at the Museum, the coordination of the large group of almost 50 at- tendees was complicated. The committee did a marvelous job a nd New Jersey’s UNWLA members returned home with a better understanding of the UNWLA’s founding of the M useum as well as its current philosophy and projects . (See Photo 3 on page 3) June 4, 2019 . The UNWLA President and Finan- cial Secretary , together with m any other UNWLA members , attended the blessed event of the official enthronement ceremony of the new Met ropolitan
