(SPIFFS), founded in 1975, presents multi - cultural events throughout the year. Members of UNWLA Branch 1 24, St. Petersburg, Florida, par- ticip ate in and are actively involved with two of these major event s. The first is the “SPIFFS International Folk Fair , ” which is held in October at Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg. Many countries display their art, educate others about their culture and traditions, and sell traditional foods. This three - day, multi - cultural fair is educational, interesting, and enjoyed by all. A second event of the St. Petersburg Inter- national Folk Fair Society is the International Ball where all attendees dress in thei r native attire. A banquet is held and guests are entertained by a va- riety of ethnic music and dance performances. In- dividuals f rom various countries are honored for their hard work and dedication to educating others about their respective countr ies and cu lture s . This year, March 2, 2019, was a memorable day for our Ukrainian c ommunity in St. Peters- burg. Two women, Orysia Petrina - Johnson and Stefania Zadojnyj - Roshetsky, were named “Women of the Year” by the Ukrainian American Association at the Gulfport Ca sino duri ng the In- ternational Ball. Their recognition is noteworthy because both women have worked tirelessly for many years supporting the Ukrainian community, the Ukrainian church, and Ukrainian culture. For years, Stefania and Orysia chaired the din n ers, lunches, bazaars, and other events at Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church. Both women were, and continue to be, instrumental in organiz- ing events, assuring successful outcomes during community festivities, and bringing support to the many indiv iduals wh o call on them for their help- ing hands. In the past, Orysia Petrina - Johnson was a Ukrainian dancing instructor at Epiphany of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church where she taught many children what she had learned from her fa- ther’s dance instructio ns. She s pread the knowledge about the Ukrainian culture through many Ukrainian dance performances throughout Florida. Orysia was one of the founders of Branch 124 and continues to be actively i nvolved in all branch events. We congratulate Orysia and Stef ania for being honored as “Women of the Year . ” We sin- cerely thank them for their dedication to our com- munity, for the knowledge they share, and for their commitment to Ukraine and its people.
