OUR LIFE Monthly, published by Ukrainian National Women’s League o f America Vol. LXIV OCTOBER 2007 Editor: TAMARA STADNYCHENKO From the Desk of the President The Ukrainian National Women's League of America salutes the newly reelected president of the World Federation of Ukrainian Womens Organizations Maria Szkambara and wishes her success in her future endeavors. Congratulations to Branch 26 of Detroit on its 75th anniversary Branch 58 of Detroit on its 60th anniversary, and Branch 43 of Philadelphia on its 50th anniversary. Many thanks for all you have done for our organization over the decades The IX Congress of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) was held in Kyiv from August 15 to 17, 2007. It was a historical moment for the organization, because it was the first time since its inception that the WFUWO Congress was held on Ukrainian soil. WFUWO’s President Maria Szkambara and Olha Danyliak, chair of the WFUWO Con gress Committee, placed a wreath at the foot of the monument and a prayer was said for the 10 million who perished in the artificial famine forced on Ukrainians by Stalin’s regime. UNWLA President Iryna Kuro wyckyj and Vice President Oxana Farion placed a wreath at the monument to St. Olha that is located nearby. The IX Congress of WFUWO met formally that afternoon and began with a prayer and welcoming remarks from Olha Danyliak. Ms. Danyliak then invited President Maria Szkambara to the podium to officially open the Congress. The president greeted honored guests, delegates, and observers and thanked them for coming. She said that the WFUWO Congress is held every five years and that the IX Congress had a
