PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL COUNCIL CELEBRATES THE UKRAINIAN WOMAN AND HER CREATIVITY Designer Zorianna Sokhatska. Model Maria Nestor. For the past three years, the Philadelphia Regional Council of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America has honored and cele brated the accomplishments the of Ukrainian woman in all spheres of artistic endeavor. This year's event, held on March 6, 2005, honored Ukrainian women in the performing arts. For the third year in succession, the pro gram was held at Philadelphia's Ukrainian Educa tional and Cultural Center, which was filled to ca pacity with tickets sold well in advance. Guests were greeted by a traditional "welcome" dance, cho reographed by the late Roma Pryma Bohachevsky and performed by the Syzokryli Dance Ensemble, founded by Madame Bohachevsky in 1978. In keep ing with the theme of the event, a biographical sketch citing the highlights of Madame Bohachev- sky's long and distinguished career was included in the program booklet. Keynote speaker Olena Kar pinich elaborated on the creative accomplishments of the talented prima ballerina in a well-prepared and eloquently delivered bilingual presentation. The program continued with an exuberant "Kozachok," also performed by Syzokryli, and a Designer Yulia Bregin. Models Roxanne Zalutsky and Oksana Slotylo. selection of poems from "Rebirth of Ukraine," com piled and recited by Olha Cehelsky. Drawing from the works of Taras Shevchenko, Vasyl Symonenko, and Oleksander Oles, the poetry glorified the rebirth of Ukraine. Ms. Cehelsky's moving recital evoked memories of Ukraine's troubled history as well as joyful exhilaration at more recent events. A bold and innovative interpretation of Vo- lodymyr Ivasiuk's Chervona Ruta was then per formed by Syzokryli. Dressed in dramatic black cos tumes, the dancers blazed across the stage with a dynamic energy that captured the imagination and invited an enthusiastic response from everyone pre sent. During the intermission, guests enjoyed a light repast, a tasty prelude to the much anticipated fashion show, which has become the centerpiece of the Philadelphia Regional Council's annual event. Featuring original designs by contemporary Ukrain ian artists, the fashion show was once again spon sored by the Red Poppy Boutique. The fashions, meticulously selected by the boutique's co-owner Eryna Cvikula-Korchynsky, were displayed by a troupe of 50 models, whose promenade down the Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
