WFUWO PRESS CULINARY TERMS NEWLY FORMED UKRAINIAN CLUB IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST The U krainian community in the state of W ashington recent ly form ed a Ukrainian-Am erican Club of W ashington. The found ing m eeting was held in the Se attle home of Mr. and Mrs. Wo- lodymyr Klos. Mrs. Victoria Klos is a UNWLA member. Her husband was elected President of the new Club. Mrs. Elaine Au stin, whose activity in E aster egg dem onstrations was w ritten about in our magazine, was elect ed Recording Secretary. The p u r pose of this club is to preserve and perpetuate the U krainian heritage among Am ericans of Ukrainian descent and to support Ukrainian cultural and scienti fic centers in the free world. COMMITTEE IN DEFEN SE OF THE PERSECUTED UNWLA Branch 96 in De troit, Mich., has initiated a cam paign for the defense of the per secuted intellectuals in Ukraine. Branch members w rote letters to Congressmen and Senators, and discussed the plight of the per secuted on the radio program “Newscall.” To b etter coordinate their efforts they form ed a spe cial committee on February 9, 1972. The Committee in Defense of the Persecuted includes rep resentatives of the U krainian community and the Students’ Or ganization. DAY CENTERS UNWLA now has 22 Day Cen ters affiliated w ith its B ranch es. The Center, attended by p re school youngsters 3-5 years old, offer the children the rudim ents of U krainian language studies. The youngsters are tau g h t pray ers, songs and games in the U krainian language. Two Day Centers are conduct ed in th e English language, and are designed for children who do not speak U krainian. Their pro gram s feature songs, games and an elem entary teaching of the U krainian language. “The U krainian Woman in the World ’, a quarterly w ith news about U krainian women is being published by the World Federa tion of U krainian Women’s Or ganizations. The purpose of the magazine which was started in Philadelphia 8 years ago, is to promote ideas which unite all Ukrainian women in the free world. In addition a bulletin “W FU WO NEW S” is attached to the m onthly OUR LIFE, a publica tion of the U krainian National Women’s League of America. WFUWO NEWS deals w ith cur rent news in the work of the Federation. Both publications are issued in Ukrainian. WFUWO NEWS is occasionally edited in English in order to inform other wom en’s organizations about the life and work of U krainian women. NEW RECORD FOR CHILDREN UNWLA Branch 82. in the Bronx, New York City, has pub lished a record for U krainian children. A special Committee under th e leadership of Mrs. Ivanna Klym was in charge of the project. They invited U krainian teachers and m usi cians to establish a suitable pro gram of tales, songs and poetry for children. The record was ready in May, 1971, and was pre sented to the public a t a special party. It m et w ith great success at the U krainian schools and Day Centers where it was previewed.
