M. D u sh n yck O UR V IC E -P R E S ID E N T ’S TOUR Mrs. A nastasia Volker, UNWLA Vice-President, toured our bilin gual Branches of the E ast. On Feb. 13, 1970 she m et with Branches 53 and 72 in New York City, and on Feb. 16 she visited UNWLA Branch 52 in Philadel phia. On Feb. 15, 1970 she rep resented the H eadquarters a t the Inauguration P arty of Branch 32 in Newark, N. J. M E E T IN G OF T H E M E M B E R SH IP COMMITTEE On Feb. 14, 1970 a m eeting of our Membership Committee un der the Presidency of Mrs. Irene Lewycka was held in New York City. It was attended by mem bers Mesdames A nastasia Vol ker, Frances Stek, N atalia Dany- lenko and Oksana Rak. The main topic of discussion was the mem bership campaign of 1969. A C T IV IT IE S OF B R A N C H 52 U K R A IN IA N N A T IO N A L W O M EN’S L E A G U E IN 1969 Meetings of Branch 52 N ata lia Kobrynska were held every m onth except during July and August. These m eetings were held either at the Home Office of the UNWLA in Philadelphia or at the m em bers’ homes. Various types of clothing, some were made by the m em bers, were sent to Pennhurst, in stitution for retarded. Members attended the “Folk F air” which was very interesting and had a trem endous attendance. Branch 42 cooperated w ith our Branch by sponsoring a joint “Bingo P arty ,” they supplying the food and refreshm ents and we, the prizes. Despite the great bliz zard, members and friends of both branches attended the a f fair and some profit was derived. The members participated 100 per cent in the “Benefit” a f fair for Ryann Bochey, daughter of one of our members who was very seriously injured in an au tomobile accident. The exent was a great success. We had the honor of having A nastasia Volker of D etroit, an Officer from H eadquarters a t tend one of our m eetings. Mrs. Stefanie Wochok was hostess for the evening, serving delicious de licacies. We are proud of Mrs. Wochok’s participation w ith the Philadelphia Federation of W om en’s Clubs and Allied Organiza tions, Inc., as being its Second Vice President. A “Christm as Dinner” m eeting was held a t the Southwark Club, all members be ing present at th a t tim e. A col lection of money was made for B arbara Krawchuk, a Ukrainian girl, — “B arbara Kidney Foun dation.” A gift envelope was pre sented for Ryann Bochey and one for Mrs. Anna Sywulak in appreciation for all she has done for Branch 52 in the past. F ran ces N ew m an , President B R A N C H 37 R E PO R T A t the October m eeting of Chapter 37, Mrs. Andre Veilleux, our Vice-President, gave a talk on children’s books. Since it was Christm as shopping time, La- verne called attention to Alexan. dra Riznyk’s excellent book re views in the April 1969, English section of Our Life, designed to give m others and grandm others some wonderful gift ideas. Three books: T he M itten by Alvin Tressler, A Stocking for a K itten and A n E g g Is F or W ish in g both by Helen Key, all based on U krainian folklore and delight fully illustrated by Yaroslava Surmach Mills, will help the American m other of Ukrainian descent to introduce her children to their U krainian heritage. During November and Decem ber some goals of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America were fulfilled through the C hapter’s educational and welfare program . A $100 check was presented to the D etroit Regional Council’s Building Fund for a residence for elderly citizens. Three woolen afghans knitted by Chapter members were given to: Mrs. Nellie Bor- deniuk, aged 95 years, of Edmon ton, Alberta, C anada; Miss Anne Huebel, amputee, aged 93 years of Traverse City, M ich.; and Mr. Tom Stumm, paralyzed veteran of the Vietnam w ar from Allen Park, Mich. Mrs. Anna Lucky, honorary member of Chapter 37 was presented w ith a subscrip tion to OUR LIFE. The children of the City of De tro it also were recipients of the C hapter’s benevolences.
