Y . ) lost a belov ed sister, Sonia Semanyszyn, to the Lord. It was a devastating loss, n ot only for the members of the branch she had helped found, but also a loss for the entire extended Ukrainian c om- munity that was involved with the Soyuzivka Re- sort & Heritage Center in Kerhonkson, N . Y . Sonia worked in the main office of the center and was considered the “Matriarch of Soyuzivka” having been there more than 30 years. She knew and re- membered everyone who came thro ugh the door for vacations, special events , camps, or to work . She also knew everything about every aspect of S o- yuzivka, having grown up at the resort after her fa- ther started working there. Soon after Sonia’s death, a fund was started by Sonia’s SZQ friends and colleagues for the purpose of creating a memorial ga rden for her on the grounds of the resort, the place that she loved best. The project came to fruition in 2018. A p anakhyda and a dedication ce re mon y were held on the first anniver - sary of her death, with the Catskill Moun - tain vista in the background.
