12 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ВЕРЕСЕНЬ 2019 On June 5, 2019, Fr. Stepan Sus, chief military chaplain of UGCC Lviv Archdiocese, sent an email to t he UNWLA: "Dear members of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, we sincerely thank you for your repeated support of the social and pastoral projects of the Center for M ilitary C hap- laincy and of the UGCC Lviv orphanage. Our joint projects hav e been very successful and are a good investment in Ukraine's present and future. With- out your support, a portion of the projects that we have already mana ged to regularly implement would definitely not have taken place! During the academic year, chaplain s and volunteers at the Center for Military C haplains and the UGCC Orphan Care Center visit orphans in educational institutions and children in the east of Ukraine. The purpose of our visits is to teach children to be a support system for others; we help c hildren to discover the love of God, and in turn, the chaplains and volunteers themselves learn sincerity and openness from the children. During summer vacations our organiza- tion does not rest, and we continue to carry the living Christ to the children by organizing educa- tional summer camps for orphans, for children deprived of parental care, children with difficult life circumstances and ch ildren in eastern Ukraine. Volunteers who attend training and master classes are involved in the summer camp organiza tion. Volunteers develop an age appro- priate program of camps taking their needs into account.” As we advised in the summer issue of Our Life , the UNWLA Executive Committee un ani- mously voted to donate $12,000 to support these summer camps. Our readers mi ght be interested in reading a few excerpts from the volunteers’ daily diaries: Today, on Augu st 5, volunteers started the sum- mer camp titled "Living Hearts" in Krasno horivka. Thank you, UNWLA - Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc. for the support giving us the opportunity to be here. I have become ac- quainted with these wonderful child ren. During the day we played games, gave out assignments, and had spiritual conversations. As usual, there were a lot of smiles on these wonderful faces! Ho me is where our heart is! With the support of UNWLA - Ukrainian National Women's League of America, on August 4, 2019, the volunteers started the first day of camp in the village of Novodonetske (Donetsk oblast). Day one of camp started with Di- vine Liturgy a nd socialization. Later we had a cat- echism class, a discussion on acts of mercy with the parable of the Prodigal Son as an example. This was followed by a group discussion and a cartoon. A class teaching "Toys made of paper " was fun for the children as we re various types of games. On day two of the camp, the physiology of the heart was discussed , and the children learned interesting facts about their own hearts. And, in order to teach the children about teamwork, we prepared a fun and interactive game wher e the children were able to show their creativity and ingenuity. Living with a big heart is to be human! With God's help and with the support of the UNWLA - Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc., the camp in Toretsk, Donetsk region, began on J uly 30. On the first day socialization was im- portant, and together with the participants camp rules were defined. Then we prayed together dur- ing Divine Liturgy after which we discussed what it means to be a good human being. After this exer- cise, the childr en were divided into two teams. Each team presented the name s of its participants to each oth er and then played the treasure hunt game. The second day of this camp (July 31) began with Divine Liturgy after which there were relay races and a master class on making paper butterflies. We performed a cheerful song with movements, played brain tease r games. Since the theme of the day was “living with a big heart is to love," we pon- dered the virtue of love and the two command- ments on love. We are pleased to sh are a few pic- tures of the campers (see 3 ). Their smiles will warm your hearts! The 40 - foot co ntainer of medical equip- ment targeted to two children’s hospitals in Ukraine (Lviv and Zhytomyr) was packed on June 18. At the invitation of Oka Hrytsak, our Socia l Welfare Chair, Inya Saldyt, the President of Branch 38, and several members of the branch w ere in- vited to the Project CURE warehouse outside of Denver, Colorado. It was Project CURE that do- nated the medical equipment and supplies. The shipment will be fr ee of charge to the hospitals and includes such valuable equipment as an endo- scopic tower, sp ecial medical monitors, surgical
