10 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛИПЕНЬ-СЕРПЕНЬ 2014 RESOLUTIONS Organizational Matters: 1) Continue the current Membership Recruitment and Retention Campaign at the local branch and Regional Council levels as well as among members-at-large. 2) During planned dissolution of a branch, encourage branch members to transfer to another branch or to transition to Member-at-Large status. Coordinate these efforts more efficiently among branches, Regional Councils, the Liaison for Branches-at-Large, and the Chairwoman for Members-at-Large. 3) Encourage women who live great distances from UNWLA branches to join the UNWLA as mem- bers-at-large. 4) Focus on the problem of retaining UNWLA members, particularly by asking members who are leaving a branch or joining one a second time to fill out exit or re-entry questionnaires. Arts/Museum: 1) Work with presidents of Regional Councils to ensure that they encourage all of their branches to become members of the Ukrainian Museum in New York City. 2) Encourage UNWLA members to bequeath their art collections and estate assets to the Ukrainian Museum. 3) Inform UNWLA members that the Museum Store will graciously accept works of Ukrainian art which are not of museum quality. 4) Encourage branches and Regional Councils to take part in the Ukrainian Museum’s new initia- tive—traveling digital and poster versions of the Museum’s most important exhibitions, begin- ning with the Taras Shevchenko exhibit. 5) Disseminate information about Ukrainian artists within Ukrainian and American communities. Scholarship Program: 1) Continue to support the work of the UNWLA Scholarship Committee. 2) Produce a DVD resource to spread information about the UNWLA Scholarship Program among the UNWLA membership. 3) Continue to recruit additional sponsors and benefactors to support students in Ukraine. 4) Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UNWLA Scholarship Program at the UNWLA Convention in 2017. Social Welfare: 1) Continue to support the UNWLA programs for grandmothers, orphans, and victims of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. 2) Continue to develop and implement the program “Assistance and Caring for the Elderly.” 3) Facilitate the sharing of experience among Regional Councils and branches in helping single el- derly members of the UNWLA. 4) Keep members informed about the UNWLA’s ongoing social welfare projects through publica- tions in Our Life . Education: 1) Work actively to attract new members, especially among young mothers. Initiate a new column in Our Life to help parents in the task of educating their children. 2) Dedicate some UNWLA branch meetings to the topic of upbringing and education in the family— as the primary place where Christian morals and love of Ukraine are instilled in the children. 3) Keep Ukrainian communities informed about the functioning of svitlychky pre-schools. Inform and educate the parents of young children about the significance and role of pre-school institu- tions. 4) Utilize various mass media to share the best practices in educating the youth. Cultural Affairs: 1) Continue to award the Petro and Lesia Kovaliv Prize for the best literary and historical works on Ukrainian themes. 2) Continue to sponsor the Ukrainian National Student Research Competitions in Ukrainian translations of William Shakespeare’s works.
