6 “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, СІЧЕНЬ 2011 Колядa Koliada is a winter ritual that now coincides with Christmas , but is much older in origin and symboli sm. The oldest songs are preserved in villages high in the Carpathian Mountains, where the Koliada is considered to be the most important event of the year. Some people believe that Spring and the harvest will not come to the village unless the songs are s ung in every household. The songs are incantations that assu me the magical power of words: “ what is said, will be so. ” Instruments played by the Koliadnyky include the trembita (Carpathian mountain horn), which is made of a hollowed pine tree that has been struck by lightning and wrapped in birch bark. – Virlana Tkacz Колядники з Криворівн і . / Koliadnyky from Kryvorivnia. В другому збан к у багрове пиво. В третому збанку зелене вино. Встан подивиси в праве віконце В вас на подвірю ісходить сонце. * Приспів повторюється після кожної строфи. Із зошита Івана Зеленчука з Криворівні IS THE MASTER HOME? Outside the house, the koliadnyky blow their mountain horns and sing: Is the master of this house home? Master’s all in gold and so are all his people, all in gold. * We all know that he is home. He is sitting at the head of the table At the head of his table made of maple. A nd his table is beautifully set. It’s beautifully set with spring wheat. On his table stand three jugs: The first jug has sweet mead, The second jug has dark beer, The third jug has green winе. Stand and look out the window The sun is rising in your garden... * Refrain is repeated after each line of the song.
