Convention WOW Moments Detroit The talent from the Ukrainian community—the singers, performers, dancers and artists who all did such a phenomenal job. Diane Zurkiwskyj, Branch 115, Sterling Heights, Michigan Ten of us from Branch 115 were lined up against the wall waiting for the opening ceremony to begin, waiting to accept the rushnyky being carried in by each Regional Council and drape them on the display board in front of the hall. I looked at the other nine ladies and thought to myself, “How blessed I am to know these gifted and beautiful women!” Helen Derkacz Turner, Branch 115, Warren, Michigan The little kids from the three Detroit svitlychky dressed in their Ukrainian outfits and their fantastic performance during the luncheon. The appreciation I felt for being part of the Ukrainian tradition. Elizabeth Kuczer, Branch 115, Troy, Michigan The beautiful pysanky created by Roman Seniuk, the woodworking, gold-leafed icon oils, and the gerdany at our convention boutique. Natalka Maruszcak, Branch 115, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan Meeting the youngest member of the National Board and English-language editor in person, the singing on the bus during the tour of Ukrainian Detroit, the Soloveyky singing during Sunday night dinner Julia Stojko, co-president, Branch 58, Dearborn, Michigan My branch is sponsoring a svitlychka for mixed marriages in our community and we received an award for our endeavors at the convention. But seeing all the svitlychkas represented at the program during our luncheon and the enthusiastic parents and grandparents that came to see them perform was truly wonderful and heartwarming. Our Ukrainian spirit will live on because our soyuzianky are so dedicated and determined that it be so. - Marie Zarycky-Cherviovsky, president of Branch 96, Warren, Michigan, and Organizational Chair for Detroit Region Council Elsewhere ALL THAT HISTORY, TRADITION BUT MOST OF ALL—UNITY! We remember, celebrate, and pass on to the next generations. Anna Krawczuk, UNWLA Honorary President Reconnecting with a delegate who recognized me after not seeing me or being in touch for 50 years. Orysia Nazar Zinycz, UNWLA Branch 56, Florida. The excellent exhibit of posters commemorating the Holodomor. Face to face meetings with the really special people who have written articles or sent materials for publication for Our Life and with whom all previous contact was by m ail, email, or telephone. Just being in the same space with so many fascinating and talented women. Coming to Detroit with no embroidered blouse and coming home with two (thank you, Liz and Marie). Madame Butterfly and Natalka Poltavka. The wedding with the rent-a-horse. Sunday afternoon power walk with Irene D. And, of course, that incredible magical mystery tour bus ride! T.
