UNWLA President Iryna Kurowyckyj took part in both celebrations. At the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Boris Tarasiuk, a reception for the delegates of the 54th session of the United Nations was hosted at the Ukrainian Mission on September 21. Iryna Kurowyckyj represented the UNWLA at the event. On September 23, the president of the UNWLA and UNWLA public relations chair Motria Sloniewska met with representatives of the Ukrainian mission in Washington to discuss the reasons the UNWLA had not been invited to the official celebrations for the 8th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence. The Mission representatives were presented with copies of the 25th UNWLA Convention Book, a copy of Milena Rudnytska: articles, letters and documents , and copies of Our Life. While in Washington, Mrs. Kurowyckyj and Mrs. Sloniewska also met with Maxine S. Scarbro, president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, who was presented with a copy of the convention book and who informed us that the convention of the General Federation of Women's Clubs in the year 2000 will take place in Boston. At a meeting of the Executive Committee, it was suggested that UNWLA representatives meet with the new Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, Anton Buteyko, to acquaint him with the organization. Because of previously scheduled commitments in New York, the ambassador was unable to meet with UNWLA members; the meeting took place with Vice Ambassador, Hennadi O.
