UNW LA BRANCH 72 HOLDS SU CCESSFU L M USICALE N EW YORK, N. Y. — B ranch 72 of “Soyuz U krainok” has once again scored in th e cultural arena w ith th e presen tatio n of th e ir M usicale M atinee a t th e U krainian In stitu te of A m erica on M arch 24, 1968. Rosalie Polche, P residen t of B ranch 72, in h er address of w el come b ro u g h t atten tio n to th e fa c t th a t th e purposes of th e U krainian N ational W om en’s League of A m erica are m any b u t of prim e im portance is th e culti vation of our U krainian tra d i tions and cultural achievem ents. The m em bers of B ranch 72 con tin u e to epitom ize th e ir sp irit and dedication tow ards th is end by prom oting and p resentin g young U krainian-A m erican a r tis ts annually. The response to th ese M usicales, th ey find, has been m ost g ra tify in g and th ey encourage o ther organizations to follow su it and undertake sim ilar program s to help our youth. A superlative perform ance w as given by each of th e follow ing U krainian-A m erican a rtis ts and th e ir accom panists, all of w hom w ere introduced by Helen Prociuk, C hairm an of th e M usi cale. O rysia Cybriw ska, a 15-year- old pianist, atten d s th e G atew ay School on a m usic scholarship and has given a num ber of suc cessful perform ances. She is p i ano accom panist and soloist w ith th e U krainian N ational Choir in New H aven, Conn. D ram atic soprano H alyna So chan was a w inner of th e Om ega P si P hi com petition in 1964. She has sung m inor roles w ith th e Jilliard O pera C horus and p er form ed w ith th e ensem ble a t th e E astm an T h eatre and P h ilh a r monic Hall. A t p resen t she is a stu d en t at th e Ju lliard School of M usic. She w as accom panied by Linda D ivila a t th e piano. A drian B ry tta n is a scholar ship stu d en t in biology a t Ford- ham U niversity, and is p u rsu in g his violin studies a t th e M an h a tta n School of M usic. H e a t tended a q u a rte t w orkshop u n der th e m em bers of th e B uda p est S trin g Q u artet and app ear ed in concerts of th e N ational F ederatio n of M usic Clubs. His piano accom panist w as P rof. George Cybriw sky. The program was concluded w ith th e rendition of a piano duet by O rysia and h er fa th e r P rof. Cybriw sky, D irector of th e New H aven B ranch of th e U krainian M usic In stitu te . H ry h o ry K ostiuk, a well know n lite ra ry scholar and p res ident of th e U krain ian W rite rs’ A ssociation in Exile, does not lim it his stu dy to lite ra tu re alone, b u t provides a full pano ram a of U krainian life during th e decade of th e unbelievable m ass of terro r. A factu al schol arly docum ent, th is book is one of th e stro n g est indictm ents of Stalinism .
