Silver leaves falling... Almost every issue of “Ota Life” brings in its obituary col umn sad news about the losis of one or more members in our or ganization Soyuz Ukrainok Ame- ryky. Among the most recent losses we see familiar names of Mrs. Pelagia Romaniuk, member of Branches 42 and 48 in Philadel phia, Mrs. Eva Krawchuk, mem ber of Branch 1 in New York, Mrs. Rosalia Kish, m.ember of Branch 41 in Philadelphia, and Mrs. Eva Kobzar, member of Br. 3 in New York City. I mention these members es pecially because I knew them per sonally, knew them to be loyal and staunch workers, promoters of Ukrainian causes, who set a good example to members who shied away from responsibilities. Their pioneering work will al ways be remembered, they are deserving of everlasting peace and rest with the Creator. The loiss of our beloved mem bers in any Branch should, at all times touch every single member of the Ukrainian National Wo men's League of America. We rnuist realize how these losses af fect our organization. We dedi cated a “Silver Wreath” to the 25 th jubilee of SUA at our recent convention and gatherings. How many “silver leaves” have since dropped off, leaving barren spaces in the wreath?! I am sure these members who have left us would wish replacements in their Bran ches, for it is the desire of all good SUA members to see that our organization grows to be al ways the largest and most prog ressive Ukrainian American wom en’s organization in our country. Keep your organizing chairmen on the constant alert for new members and support “Our Life” to the utmost! It is the respon sibility of the Junior League de partment of “Our Life.” The con tact through our journal between members and old friends has more effect and meaning than words can ever describe. May I take this opportunity to send our National Headquar ters a very special greeting and wishes of a Happy Easter, also to our members and friends my best wishes of happiness, and to all Ukrainian people of realizations of their foremost desire—for the Free Republic of Ukraine. Chrystos Voskres! Annette L. Kmetz former National Pres. A n O p e n L e t t e r Dear Editor: This is Branch 61, Ukrainian Junior League, Detroit, report - ing again. We want to congra tulate you on being re-elected at the Convention again. We had our election of officers for the year 1951. Frances Osako is our new President; Sophie Si- ehda is Vice-President; Helen Stanizewski is Treasurer; Mary Pinkos is Secretary; Kay Snarski Financial Secretary. The stork has been busy visiting the mjembers of the club. Mrs. Ann Mikula has a baby boy, Mrs. Mary Doroszenko has a baby girl and Mrs. Katherine Kanter is ex pecting her baby f'or Easter. Our club is starting a drive for new members, which we hope will be successful. With more girls we could put on bigger af fairs. We hope to be sending you more news and more often in the near future. Mary Heshczuk 1346 Conley St. Detroit, Mich. Dear Junior League Members: As we take the bitter with the sweet, so we received the sad news that Father Stephen, (Rev. Stephen Reshetylo, OSBM) had died on Christmas Dav. W»e mourn the loss of our dear de parted friend, since it was through his good council that our Branch 56 i.n Chicago has done much of its good wbrk in thfe early days of our club activities. He has given us many names and addresses of needy Ukrainian people, exiles in Europe, to whom we sent packages of clothing. — “Something new has been added” to our election meeting, for it was the first time that our Branch 56 sponsored an election dinner in the fashionable El Bianco Club, where almost every member at tended and election of incoming 1951 officers was held. The stork is flying over the home of our President Mrs. Pet er Zelisko. The newcomer is ex pected in June, a week after his or her daddy is expected to re ceive his B.S. degree at the Uni- verts ity. On January 17th, Branch 56 held its annual pre-election meet ing at the home of the newlywed Mrs. Alex Kukure (Irene Hlad- ky). In her new home with every thing so shiny new our bride-hos- tess served coffee and a home made cake. A revelation—-since Irene was never before interested in baking.
