Our Life | Наше життя 8 A significant element of the UNWLA organ- izational mission is to preserve and promote our Ukrainian cultural heritage. Continuing our 95-year legacy in support of this mission, the UNWLA is sponsoring an online “Directory of Ukrainian American Artists”. The Directory was developed during the past two years by the UNWLA Arts and Museum Advisory, a commit - ted group of Ukrainian artists, folklorists, his- torians, educators, and community advocates, led by committee chair Natalia Pawlenko. As the Ukrainian arts continue to grow and flourish in the United States, the need to make information about the work of Ukrainian Amer - ican artists readily available and accessible in an updated format has become increasingly important. While there are information sources in hard copy, for example, Ukrainian Art in the Diaspora , published by the Ukrainian Artists Association in USA in 1981; Notatky z mystetst - va (Notes from the Arts) published by the same art group from 1963 to 1990; The Ukrainian Di- aspora: Women Artists 1908–2015 , catalogue published by The Ukrainian Museum in 2016, none of these sources are online, and all fo- cus almost exclusively on professional artists in the fine arts. The categories included in the UNWLA Direc - tory are not limited to the fine arts, but will include folk artist, as well as hobbyists in 32 categories: basket-weaving, carving (riz’ba), Calling all Ukrainian American Artists ceramics, cinematography, dance (choreog- raphy), design (clothing, costume, graphic), doll-making, egg-decorating (pysanky), embroi- dery, furniture-making, glass blowing, iconogra- phy, jewelry, leatherwork, metal work, musical composition, musical instrument construction, painting, paper-cutting (vytynanky), photogra- phy, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, singing (vo- cal artist), stone-carving, straw-weaving / straw art, toy-making, weaving (loom and hand), wick - erwork, writing with an option to add additional art and creative fields. The online Directory will be updated periodi- cally and continuously expanded, which makes the task of identifying an artist who works in any one of these artistic and creative fields that much easier for those interested in promoting Ukrainian culture in America. We encourage all Ukrainian artists, profes- sional and hobbyists, who keep our traditions alive, or are creating new ones, to consider be- ing a part of this great endeavor for our Ukrain- ian American community now, as well as a re- source for future generations. Inclusion in the Directory is voluntary and participating artists are invited to visit this page to enter informa- tion about themselves: https://bit.ly/3coUXmP. The Directory will be available on the UNWLA website in the coming months.
