Christina Saj is a contemporary artist whose work reveals a fas - cination with color and pattern while adapting forms assimilat - ed from ancient traditions. Her early training included work with Byzantine iconographer, Petro Cholodny, the Younger, expos - ing her to a traditional, ancient method of painting in egg tem - pera and bringing her closer to her Ukrainian roots. Saj holds a BA in Painting from Sarah Law - rence, an MFA from Bard College and studied Byzantine Art History at Oxford University. Saj continues to adapt her work and innovate to engage modern audiences in new ways with the use of unusual materials and a focus on universal symbols with cross-cultural references. Mythol - ogies have always been a point of fascination for Saj, as these sto - ries and symbols resonate with diverse peoples and help make sense of the world in which we live. Her work has been widely exhibited, including venues such as the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, The National Cathedral in Washington, DC, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Union The - ological Seminary, The Ukrain - ian Museum in New York City, The Museum of Cultural Heritage in Kyiv, the American Embassy in Qatar, as well as at the White House. Her works are held in pri - vate and museum collections in the United States and abroad. She maintains an active studio in New Jersey where she welcomes commissions.
