28 WWW.UNWLA.ORG “НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЧЕРВЕНЬ 2017 News from Branch 54 by Mariyka Pazuniak, Press Secretary UNWLA Branch 54 of Wilmington, Delaware, which was established under the patronage of the 500 Heroines who perished in the Soviet concentration camp at Kingir, Kazakhstan, held its general annual meeting on February 12, 2017. The meeting agenda included the elec- tion of new officers. Marika Hawryszuk and Vlo- dia Zalusky were elected to serve as Branch 54 co-presidents. Daria Lissy was elected recording secretary, and Donna Dycio-Senigen agreed to continue serving as branch treasurer. Helen Gottschalk (a new member of Branch 54) and Irene Stolar were elected auditors. Our new Nominating Committee members are Roza Duffy and Vera Gregorovich. Ms. Duffy and Ms. Lissy are now co-chairs of the Program and Cul- tural Events Committee. Ms. Duffy and Ms. Gregorovich serve as the new co-chairs of the So- cial Welfare Committee. Helen Gottschalk, Donna Dycio-Senigen, and Vera Gregorovich were elected co-chairs of Branch 54’s Hospitality Committee, and the author of this article was chosen to serve as Press Secretary. We would like to thank Halyna Henhalo, president of the Phil- adelphia Regional Council, and Halyna Pupin, a member of Philadelphia’s Branch 128, for at- tending our meeting. This year, as in prior years, Branch 54 continued its tradition of visiting elderly or ill UNWLA members with gift baskets for Easter and Christmas. We sponsor a scholarship stu- dent in Ukraine, and some of our members indi- vidually sponsor their own scholarship students. During the past year, we marked the 100th anni- versary of the death of Ivan Franko by hosting a commemorative program for our local commu- nity. Stefania Hrycushko I close this brief report with a greeting from all the women of Branch 54 to our long- time friend Stefania Hrycushko who recently cel- ebrated her 100th birthday! Mnohaya Lita! A Gentle Reminder from the Editors Deadlines. Producing a bilingual monthly magazine is a complex matter that requires extensive coopera- tion and coordination between and among authors, photographers, editors, and Computoprint. Editing and layout take time and effort and it is for this reason that we set deadlines for materials to be published in any given month. Materials submitted later than the designated deadline wreak havoc on the production pro- cess and often create unnecessary additional work for all concerned. Please note that all materials (articles and photos) for any given issue of the magazine must be received by the editors by the 10th of the month preceding the month of publication. Materials received after this deadline may be bumped to the next issue. We also ask that you send seasonal materials in a timely manner. Please note that we cannot publish articles about Christmas in summer or articles about Mother’s Day celebrations in October. Simultaneous Submissions. Please do not send identical articles to Our Life and any other publication simultaneously as this constitutes a breach of professional courtesy. (In some cases, it is also illegal to do this as it may violate copyright laws.) If you feel the information you wrote about is important enough to share with a broader or different audience, write a separate and distinct article for each publication.
