OUR LIFE M o nth ly , p u b lis h e d b y U k ra in ia n N a tio n a l W o m e n ’s L e a g u e o f A m e ric a VOL. M FEBRUARY 1994 Editor: Halyna N. Kuzyszyn Dr. Maria Kwitkowsky, honorary president of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, passed away on January 21, 1994, at the age of 79. Born in the Bukovyna region of Ukraine, she finished her studies in Chernivtsi — with a Masters and Doctorate degree in philosophy. She married cultural and political activist Dr. Denys Kwitkowsky, and moved to the United States. It was here that she became a community activist and a member of many organizations, such as the Ukrainian Gold Cross orga nization, of which she became president in 1958. For ten years she was also president of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations. Her ability to work well with people and her ideals and aspirations, are characteristics every woman can look up to. Mrs. Kwitkowsky leaves behind a daughter-in-law and grandson. IN BRIEF: (A summary of articles in the Ukrainian section) In her article in the Ukrainian section of this issue, Iwanna Rozankowsky describes the difficulties and hardships our organization encountered after it was founded in 1925. It was not until 1944 that “Our Life” was first published, since many problems and obstacles had to be overcome first. Through the hard work and dedication of many women, our organization was able to grow and “Our Life” continues to be our press organ to this day. "May your name be holy” (Nechaj Imya Tvoje Sviatytsia) by Yurij Zajcev, is a warm memoir of Olenka Antoniv, wife of Ukrainian dissident and political prisoner Zynovij Krasiwskyj. Though her life was short (1937- 1986), Olenka Antoniv made a lasting impact on those who came in contact with her throughout her life. She was a doctor by profession and an active supporter of Ukrainian cultural and political life in the 1960’s. She was a very religious person, who helped those in need, and was a good Samaritan to her friends, victims of KGB arrests, visiting them in prisons, bringing food and moral support. She was a woman full of strength, who knew how to pass it on to those who needed it. ’’НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ”, ЛЮ ТИЙ 1994 15 IN HONOR OF THE 100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE UKRAINIAN NATIONAL ASSOCIATION THE UNW LA WOULD LIKE TO WISH THE UNA ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE!
