Oksana Makarevych 1962, Ballerina Valentyna Pereyas- lavec 1973 and Actress Wira Lewycka 1974. A majestic work is Chereshnovsky’s Memorial to Lesia Ukrainka in two variants — one which is in the Cultural Garden of the Rockefeller Park in Cleveland Ohio, the other in High Park, Toronto, Ontario. Both statues, though similar are dissimilar. In one Lesia Ukrainka projects the vitality, beauty and strength of her youthful creative soul, in the other the poetess displays the reservation, dignity and wisdom of her majestic talent. In 1963 and 1964 Chereshnovsky went back to the initial expression of his creativity — woodcarving, in designing and executing the interior of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Hunter, NY. The iconostasis, the tabernacle, the altar, tetrapod, gospel stand and grand lampadary are woodcarved following the motifs in Ukra inian folk ornamentation. The exhibition of the works of Mykhailo Cheresh novsky at The Ukrainian Museum is a comprehensive study of the life of the artist. The essay in the catalogue more than recounts his creativity. The essay is a per sonal tribute from the curator to the patriotism, serious ness, dedication to his art and humanity of the artist. ”ln the summer of 1991 Chereshnovsky turned eighty. He is feeble and ailing. His deeds are the tri umph of mind over matter. For the past twenty-five years he had been the head of the Ukrainian Artists Association in the U.S.A. and has arranged hundreds of individual and group exhibitions featuring works by Ukrainian artists. One can relate many heartfelt stories about his dedication and humbleness. Mykhailo Chereshnovsky is a sculptor who came from the people and in return he gave them great art.” Л іспу Christmas and a Happy Netv Tear The Ukrainian Museum offers a new series of greeting cards design ed by Jacues Hnizdovsky.
