Therefore, as you can see our goals are very far from feminist issues. Students of the Small Academy in the Ivan Franko Geological Museum, the University of Lviv. The level of education prevalent among the Ukrain ian people determines to a great degree the fate of the nation as a whole. That level also determines if we are going to have proficient economists, politicians, engi neers, historians, philologists — professional individuals in all spheres of the economy and culture. If Ukraine cannot catch up with the educational levels of the deve loped nations, then its people should not expect a better future. The crisis situation which enveloped our economic structure, our politics and culture, has also been re flected in education, in our school system. The main draw back in education is bureaucratic red tape, out dated programs, as well as the organizational structure and textbooks which have not changed in decades. Only one set of compulsory textbooks has been availa ble for the entire Soviet territory. The books are out dated and not the very best to begin with. Their transla tion into Ukrainian is beyond criticism.
