Recently the President of UNWLA, Iwanna Rozankowsky, sent a letter to branch presidents of the organization with the following message: unless branches have a 100 percent membership subscription of OUR LIFE magazine in 1986, their dele gates to the 1987 UNWLA Convention will not be able to vote at the Convention. For some time now there has been great concern over the difficulties with the publication of the magazine. Inflation, as we all know, has spared no one.Thecost of paper, printing and shipping has gone up, but the integrity and quality of the maga zine has remained steady. It is hard to make ends meet in such a situation. There have been various suggestions offered on how to make the magazine pay for itself, but the non-profit status of our organization makes such ideas non- applicable. The most recent meeting of the National Board held on November 1 and 2, 1986 concluded that a 100 percent membership subscription within the organization will safeguard the continued existence of OUR LIFE and support the cost of its publi cation. OUR LIFE magazine is an integral part of UNWLA. It is a journal that reflects the work of the organization. Since 1944 it has monitored its growth, nurtured its mem bership, reflected the cycle of life of the thousands of Ukrainian — American women who have joined its ranks. The magazine is the heritage passed on to us from our grandmothers and mothers. The magazine is part of the proud tradition of UNWLA. There is one very important thing that we, as members of UNWLA must realize —if there is anything that has to be done for our organization, we are the ones who have to do it. The community will not rally to bail us out of trouble, no other organzation will run to our aid, no one will take up our cause. Among the many impressive characteristics of the UNWLA member is her stead fastness and loyalty to the organization and determination to see that the programs and goals of the organization are realized. Active participation of each delegate at the upcoming Convention is very important.
