Branch 72 Musicale The third annual musicale of Branch 72 at which it presents talented young artists, took place at the Ukrainian Institute of America, New York City, on No vember 22, with a program by Miss Christyna M. Bodnar, mez zo-soprano, and Miss Halyna Sa rach, cellist. Miss Bodnar, who was born in Lviv, is an English teacher at the Brearley School in New York and is studying voice with Prof. V. Zdraikowsky at the Ukrainian Music Institute. Munich-born Miss Sarach, a music major at Hunter College, is continuing her cello studies with Prof. Ludmilla Timoshenko-Polewska, also at the UMI. The program was opened by Mrs. Mae Demey, President of Branch 72, who welcomed the large audience. Mrs. Anne Har rison, Program Chairman of the event, presented the young ar tists. Accompanied by Prof. Ihor Sonevytsky, Miss Bodnar sang works by Handel, Ponchielli, a group of lieder by Mahler which was dedicated to the memory of the late President Kennedy, and Ukrainian songs by Lysenko, I. Sonevytsky and Stepovy. Miss Sarach, who was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Alexandra Sa rach-Bunin, played selections for the cello by B. Romberg, H. Ec- cles, Faure, Dvorak and Saint- Saens. Both artists were warmly re ceived by the appreciative audi ence which included many Amer ican, foreign and Ukrainian guests. Mrs. Mary Dushnyck, Honorary President of Br. 72, in troduced several of them, includ ing Mr. D. Madawela of Ceylon, who is with the United Nations Secretariat, and Mrs. Madawela; Mrs. R. Andley and Mrs. B. Cho pra of India; Mrs. D. Selden and Mrs. L. Horwitz of Pan Pacific and Southeast Asia Women’s Ass’n ; Mrs. O. Bohanan of NCW; Mrs. Ivanka Dzus; Mrs. Stefania Pushkar, First Vice President of UNWLA; Mrs. Na talia Chaplenko, President of UNWLA N. Y. Regional Council; Miss Marsha Metrinko, “Miss New York City” of 1964; Mrs. Kath. Peleshok, President of Br. 1; Prof. V. Cisyk, head of the Ukrainian Music Institute; and Dr. M. Zarycky, head of Ukrain ian Medical Society of America. Also present were: Dr. R. Osin- chuk, Dr. V. Pushkar, M. M. Lep- kaluk, Mr. V. Chaplenko, Mrs. A. Swenson, Pres, of Br. 8, and others. An exhibit of abstract paint ings by Mrs. Kay Lucyshyn, a member of Br. 72, was on display in the Ukrainian Institute lobby.
