Ukrainian Woman иивірцви|ішиш0илдNoимиииаиюаз « и и в м м м и м « и «мий.иіішNoмі.ц.м'>іивтамм^ The New York World's Fair The New York 1964-1965 W orld’s F a i r has opened, and v i s i tors from all over the world are flocking to the famed exposi t i on, which will run through Oc tober 18 this year and from April 21 through October 17 next year. The F air features many exciting internat i onal pavil i ons as well as stim ulating exhibits sponsor ed by United States federal, state and city governments, reli gious and i ndustrial groups, etc., and has taken “Man’s Achieve m ent in an Expanding Universe” as the F air theme. Its purpose is to advance ‘“'Peace through Un derstanding. ” Although Ukrainians do not have their own exhibit, they will take p art in several program s at the F a ir ; a few dancing groups have already perform ed there. On Sunday, July 19th, which is “U krain i an Day” at the Fair, scores of U krain i an dancers and choristers, as well as a sympho ny orchestra, will give an after noon and an evening perform ance in the Singer Bowl, which seats approxim ately 15,000. Also on the m orning of July 19 there will be a U krainian Mass cele brated at the Vatican Pavilion. In addition to the above pro gram s, there will be many others at which our Ukrainian groups will participate. The “Soyuz U krainok” is also taking p art in the W orld’s Fair. As a member of the National Council of Women of the U. S., the UNWLA will participate in a phase of the women’s activities at the F air sponsored by the Women’s Advisory Council, whose General Chairm an is Mrs. Mary P. Lord, form er delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. The Women’s Hospi tality Center in the B etter Liv ing Center Building, sponsored by the Purex Corporation, has been designated as the official headquarters for national and i m ternational women’s organiza tions and their membership. Its reception lounge will serve as an informal social m eeting point where women will be able to re lax in elegant surroundings, fu r nished along the lines of Colo n i al W illiamsburg. The H ospital ity Lounge is expected to be used by more than 265 women’s orga nisations , representing th irty million women here and abroad during the 2 F air years. Mrs. W. B. Parsons is Hospitality Chair man, w ith Mrs. D. Stetten, as her Deputy. Our participation in the Wom en’s H ospitality Center will con sist of having Hostesses there during the week of Sept. 21- 27 , 1964 . The i r duties w i ll be to greet and aid guests who wish to avail themselves of the Cen ter, answer quest i ons regarding the Fair, New York City and “Soyuz Ukrainok.” During the period when our organization is having its hostesses, it will be assigned a desk i n the Hospital ity Center where m aterial about the UNWLA will be displayed. In this connection, it should be noted th a t a UNWLA pam phlet will be available for distribution. Also, we may display samples of Ukrainian folk art, pysanky, em broidery, etc. The Women’s Hospitality Cen ter will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and to gain adm is sion to the Lounge, each lady m ust have a national organiza tion club membership card, to be shown at the entrance to the Center. (Persons wishing to ac company club members m ust be cleared with the Center’s office in advance). The “Soyuz U krai nok” headquarters is sending such membership cards to all its branches, who will distribute the cards to their members. Mrs. Helen Lototsky, UNWLA President, has appointed Mrs. M ary Dushnyck to serve as liai son between the UNWLA and the H ospitality Committee and as Chairm an of Volunteers, with Mrs. V arka Bachynsky as Ass’t Chairman. Through the coopera tion of Mrs. Jane McCaffree- F air Director of Women’s Activ ities, and Mrs. Patricia Fair, her A ssistant, the UNWLA is m ak ing plans to play a p art in this unique opportunity th a t the Women’s H ospitality Center at the W orld’s F air offers to share in be i ng of service to women from the United States and from countries all over the world, in addition to giving each organiza tion an opportunity to set forth i ts aims and accomplishments. M ary Dushnyck UKRAINIAN LOYALTY DAY IN WILLIMANTIC, CONN. In the Annual Loyalty Day pa rade in Willimantic, Conn., on May 2, 1964 Miss Christina Maj- nich, a student of St. Basil’s Aca demy in Philadelphia was elected Ukrainian Loyalty Day Queen. Mrs. M ary Dushnyck, UNWLA Organization Chairman, present ed her with a bouquet of roses. The Princesses were Miss Maria Holowchak and Miss Gloria Peca. A TALENTED TRANSLATOR Mrs. Anna Halia Horbach, Ph.D. has distinguished herself through translations of U krain ian literature into German.
