DEAR JUNIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS In the last several issues of OUR L IFE we have discussed the ob jectives of social service of the Ukrainian National W omen's League of America. The standing W elfare Committee of UNW LA is required to regulate the methods of activity in this field. One of its duties is to secure inform ation on social work in the United ,States and to adapt o u t own work to it. A prospect of new action may thus be opened for Junior League Branches. The American welfare agencies are generally known in ev ery town,. Hence our Junior League Branches will not find it difficult to get in touch with them. First, they should review their program s and work, and then get in close relations with them, so as to cooperate with them in cases of Ukrainian families who may need aid of these agencies. Please, discourse on this item at your next meeting. W e sihall ap preciate hearing from you about your initiative. D uring the coming weeks before E aster t h e r e will 'be many an occasion for showing the U krainian folk art represented on E aster eggs. True, it is already widely known in United States and Canada, for our designers are being invited to show this interesting ancient art in the clubs and television, and the American newspapers have fre quently printed Ukrainian E aster eggs in colors. This fact may serve to attract more of the public interested in art, to the dem onstration of Ukrainian E aster eggs and their designing. Such an occasion may surely be appropriate for furnishing inform ation on Ukaine. While collecting annual dues from the members for the Central Office of UNW LA, please, check w hether all of them are subscribing for OUR L IFE . According to a decision- of the X I Convention every UNW LA member is obligated to subscribe for the magazine. We wish to draw your attention that the UNW LA members have an emblem of their own which they are supposed to wear on organi zational occasions,. The Branch Officers ought to see to it th a t every member has an emblem. O rder from the Home Office. these E aster eggs. In every story the “pysanka” emerges as an a t tractive object, and quite w orthy enough to ransom Jesus from his m artyrdom . Such is the great im portance attached to the “pysan- ka.” Mildred Milanowicb FROM OUR MAIL-BOX January 11, 1956 Mrs. Anna Sywuiak 112 Dewey Road Melrose Park, Pa. Dear Mrs. Syw uiak: This is still your holiday season and so perhaps I am not too belat ed in sending this little note sim ply to thank you again for your wonderful Christmas thought in sharing a traditional Ukrainian Christm as Eve supper with In ter national Institute members and friends and some of your other friends. It was not only a kind and generous thing for you and your associates to undertake, but it showed -how much you care about the “bridge of understand ing” of which Dr. Cenko spoke and which is so close to the whole purpose of the International In stitute and what it tries to stand for in this community. I cannot refrain from also ex pressing appreciation of all the hard work and effort that carry ing out your idea involved for you and your helpers. W ith best wishes to you per sonally for 1956, Sincerely yours, Elizabeth A.
