The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America is proud to once again support the Translating Ukraine Summer Institute (TUSI), an intensive twelve-day program dedicated to training the next generation of translators working from Ukrainian into English. Taking place July 6–17, 2026, at the historic Ossolineum in Wrocław, Poland, the institute brings together emerging translators with internationally recognized scholars, writers, and literary translators to strengthen the global presence of Ukrainian literature and scholarship.

As a partner of the institute, UNWLA continues its longstanding commitment to advancing Ukrainian culture, education, and the preservation of Ukraine’s intellectual heritage. Translation plays a vital role in ensuring that Ukrainian voices, history, and contemporary experiences are accessible to readers around the world—especially at a time when Ukraine’s cultural identity is under attack.

This year’s program features an outstanding faculty, including Grace Mahoney (Poetry), Serhiy Yakovenko (Academic Texts and Nonfiction), Mayhill Fowler (Theater Translation), and guest speakers Vitaly Chernetsky, Taras Koznarsky, Svetlana Lavochkina, as well as a special workshop with Iryna Shuvalova and Uilleam Blacker on bringing translated books to publication. Participants will engage in literary prose, poetry, and academic translation workshops, lectures, readings, and collaborative mentoring throughout the twelve-day institute.

By supporting initiatives like the Translating Ukraine Summer Institute, UNWLA invests in the people who help Ukrainian stories cross borders, fostering deeper international understanding of Ukraine’s literature, history, and culture – one translation at a time.
