Last week in Yaremche, our partners from the Volunteer Center Dobro concluded a week-long winter camp for families from eastern and frontline regions of Ukraine. The camp was proudly sponsored by UNWLA and private Austrian donors. Together, we provided 45 participating families from the Pokrovsk and Zaporizhzhia areas with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and rediscover joy amidst the ongoing hardships of the brutal Russian war.
This camp became a week of togetherness and healing for everyone involved.

The camp’s activities created an environment where participants could momentarily escape the burdens of war and rebuild their sense of community. From day one, the focus was on fostering connections and teamwork. Families played games, shared stories, and even collaborated to build a “dream city” together. For many, it was a heartwarming reunion with friends they had not seen in years due to displacement.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in activities designed to nurture creativity, relaxation, and resilience:
- Creative Workshops: Families participated in soap-making, candle-making, and painting sessions, allowing for artistic expression and bonding.
- Counseling Sessions: Psychologist Tetiana Lobodynska provided group and individual sessions for children, teens, and parents, supporting their emotional well-being.
- Excursions and Recreation: Families explored the stunning Carpathian Mountains, including visits to Bukovel, Hutsul Land, and local legend parks, giving them a chance to relax and marvel at the beauty of the region.
- Community Games and Talent Shows: Evening activities, such as team games and a talent show, highlighted the remarkable talents of both children and parents, inspiring pride and joy.
- Faith and Reflection: Meaningful prayer gatherings fostered spiritual connection and provided a space for personal reflection.

We are immensely thankful to the donors, volunteers, and organizers who made this camp a reality. Special gratitude goes to the incredible volunteers whose dedication and open hearts brought light and comfort to all participants.
This week was filled with positive emotions, rest, and joyful discoveries. Families were able to leave their worries behind, even for a short while, and children rediscovered what childhood should feel like.
This camp stands as a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. We are deeply grateful to our donors for helping us bring hope and light to families during these dark times.
Thank you for making a difference!
