The beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion halted many cultural industries, including cinema. Since Russia aims to destroy Ukrainian statehood and denies Ukrainian independence, rich cultural heritage, and history, we felt obligated to fuel Ukrainian cultural resistance. Thanks to the cooperation with the Association for the Development of cinematography in Ukraine, the UNWLA received the rights to organize showings of Ukrainian films throughout the United States. All proceeds from these showings will go for humanitarian aid to members of the film industry in Ukraine, which has come to a complete standstill as a result of the war.
We are very grateful to members of Branch 136 in Naples, FL, who has received the rights from Ukraine’s cultural entities to organize showings of Ukrainian films throughout the United States. With the cooperation of Oksana Piaseckyj, National Culture Chair of UNWLA, the project is co-sponsored by the UNWLA. Our Branches are encouraged to organize movie showings at their locations.
