XXXIІI Конвенція СУА 80 I was honored to join the UNWLA National Executive Committee in June 2021. Since then, the National Executive Committee has united to work for the benefit of Ukraine and for the benefit of UNWLA members. The mission and work of the UNWLA is truly inspirational. As Treasurer of the UNWLA since the XXXII Convention, I stepped into a role that had been vacant for a term. As the day-to-day financial responsibilities increased for UNWLA during the previous two terms, Natalia Honcharenko’s role as the organization’s accountant expanded. Natalia has managed the books in an extremely organized and professional manner. She has always been available and receptive to any of my questions, or requests, and gave guidance. We have worked together on numerous occasions to compile analysis and reports and Natalia has been a wonderful partner throughout my tenure. By having Natalia Honcharenko’s daily support, we were able to focus on some “bigger picture” organizational matters. We created a Finance Committee of which I, as National Treasurer, and per the Bylaws, was the chair. This committee’s main responsibility is to provide direction to the National Executive Committee and National Board for fiscal responsibility and internal controls. Furthermore, we look at and advise on future long-term planning. As Treasurer, I authored the UNWLA Reimbursement Policy and Investment Policy. I also reviewed and provided input to numerous other organizational policies and procedures as they were being developed. The Finance Committee has been responsible for monitoring UNWLA funds held in accounts at Self Reliance (NY) Federal Credit Union and invested through Stawnychy Financial Services, Inc. As a not-for-profit organization, UNWLA is audited annually, and Federal and New York State tax returns are filed. UNWLA’s CPA firm is Nisivoccia LLP. Our accountant has been working with the auditors, responding to their multiple requests, reviewing up to 50 transactions and supplying requested backup documents in all business areas and divisions of UNWLA. Once the formal Nisivoccia audit was completed, the UNWLA financials were also audited annually by the UNWLA Auditing Committee of which Vera Kushnir is chair. Natalia Honcherenko and I worked together to prepare documents and answer questions during these internal audits. I then prepared and presented UNWLA financial statements and budgets at the annual National Board meetings, as well as for this UNWLA XXXIII Convention. I sincerely appreciate and value the opportunity that I have been afforded to serve as UNWLA Treasurer, especially during the past two years since russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and to be able to witness the generosity of our membership and communities in their support of Ukraine during this very trying time in Ukraine’s history. Thank you to UNWLA President Natalia Pawlenko and to all members of the National Executive Committee for their cooperation and support. I wish the newly elected members of the National Board and Executive Committee much success in their future projects, as well as gratification in their roles with UNWLA. СЛАВА УКРАЇНІ!
