XXXIІI Конвенція СУА 52 Our Life Magazine The UNWLA magazine, Our Life , is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, an impressive milestone! Our editor-in-chief, Romana Labrosse will share more about the last three years in her contribution to this XXXIII Convention Book. My involvement in the magazine includes a review of each draft issue before it goes to print, providing suggestions for content, submitting a monthly column (eight per year) and regularly contributing articles. During the period June 2021 – August 2024, twenty-five (25) issues of Our Life will have been published. Branding An encounter at a summer festival in 2022 led me to realize that our members were being a little too “shy” about promoting the UNWLA brand. With our “UNWLA Brand Guide” in place, I worked with an intern (Nataliia Shyiika, UGS) to produce a tablecloth and T-shirt for members to reproduce and use; membership materials such as postcards, posters and brochures were developed by Alina Zhburenko and subsequently updated by Anna Bereznyak. In meetings with Branches and in articles in Our Life , we consistently send the message about how important it is to represent a UNWLA Branch proudly, beautifully and consistently. Media Interviews In 2023 and 2024, I was interviewed by Village Voice for articles that were published online. In 2022, I appeared on the morning program of the local Fox channel, Good Day New York, to discuss UNWLA and our work in response to the crisis in Ukraine. In 2023, a full-length interview with Voice of America was conducted about the history of UNWLA and our response to the war: This video resides on our website in the “About Us” section. Administration In June 2021, Olya Stasiuk, for many years the Office Administrator of the UNWLA office in lower Manhattan made the decision to retire. After a lengthy process of interviewing numerous candidates, I, together with members of a search committee, chose to hire Halyna Cherednichenko who began work with UNWLA in January 2022. This was one month before the start of the full scale invasion by russia of Ukraine, which caused an incredible surge in donations and activities on the national level, as well as across all Branches, Regional Councils and among our Members-at-Large. One of the most profound administrative changes was to transfer our member and supporter information from Excel to a Customer Relationships Management (CRM) system. This required months of preparation and training. I am happy to report that not only is the new CRM system (Neon) fully operational, but also provides us with insights about our supporters in a way that was not previously possible. Awards In 2023, UNWLA was awarded the Platinum “Seal of Transparency”, the highest award that Candid – a nonprofit that provides the most comprehensive data and insights about the social sector and not-for-profit organizations can offer. This is an indication of the trustworthiness and impact of the organization being recognized. In 2023, we were also given recognition by “Great NonProfits.” Governance While this topic is at the end of my report, it is perhaps among the most important of all. The National Board met seven times during a three-year tenure (June 2021 – September 2024). The National Board met in-person once (May 2022), and the remainder of the meetings were via video conference. As National President, my responsibility is to organize the agenda, as well as preside over these important decision-making meetings.
