XXXIІI Конвенція СУА 162 During 2023, we continued to be active in community events. Members attended an art exhibit at Temple Emanu-El titled “Confession-An Exhibition of Ukrainian Artists.” Members attended the film screenings for “Mavka,” “Sisters of Ukraine,” and “Our Ukrainian Sky.” Patricia Krysa arranged for four Ukrainian tsylyanky to be included in a new “Miami Culture” folk art exhibit at HistoryMiami Museum. Our Branch held a program for Den’ Sobornosty (Zluky Zemel) and then sponsored an art contest at our community-wide Den’ Nezalezhnosty commemoration. The commemoration event was organized by, and held at, the Ukrainian American Club of Miami. Several members attended other Den’ Nezalezhnosty commemorations, as well, including a family picnic and a fundraising concert “The Power of Ukraine” that featured various Ukrainian musicians. Branch President Olya Sperkacz was involved in selecting the Eva Staszkiw Scholarship recipient, and the entire Branch is grateful that UNWLA has reinstated this scholarship that was funded long ago by Mrs. Staszkiw, our very own Branch member. The highlight of our year was the celebration of our 70th anniversary that included a luncheon and auction. Branch 17 anniversary events were featured in the March/April 2024 issue of Our Life . In January 2024, our Branch co-sponsored a successful inaugural “Malanka Cruise” held in support of the Ukrainian American Club of Miami and the Ukrainian Dancers of Miami. We held a Den’ Heroyiny program that honored the valiant women fighting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as raised money for the UNWLA Keep Ukraine Warm initiative. We created a program for and held a luncheon that honored poet laureate Taras Shevchenko. Being a small, unique Ukrainian community we have no choice but to continue our 70-year tradition of collaboration with the afore-mentioned equally long-standing Ukrainian organizations in the south Florida area. In this way, under the leadership of our new Branch president, Patricia Krysa, we forge even closer relationships, attending concerts, exhibits, and rallies together as one Ukrainian family. We also support those of our housebound members in need via telephone calls and home visits, and some of our members have assisted in helping with translation or finding places for Ukrainian refugees to live. Sadly, since the conclusion of the UNWLA XXXII National Convention, several dear to us Branch 17 members have entered eternity: former Branch President Uliana Romaniv, Cami Huk, Marijka and Bronya Kovalevych.
